Suns are very fun to watch and always seem to have elite players coming and going in their club. Them beating the Jazz made by day as bright as a Rocket's win.
Why certainly I'll respond to this in a Phoenix Suns thread turned into Yao's limitations to Adelman's philosophy thread to talk about the Seattle Sonics Lots to say but will keep it simple, basically think of the Jazz versus Rockets in the playoffs except 2 times worse in both postseason AND regular season, thats how the Sonics were to the Rockets then. I'll never forget coming home and seeing the Rockets lose to the Sonics by 56 points! Thats like a 76 point margin in college or high school ranks. Also think of Phoenix (hey SUNS talk!) fast paced teams from 2-3 years ago against the slow Van Gundy Rockets. Just bad kryptonite-like matchups against good Rocket teams. Phoenix record would put them 5th in the East. They're not gonna have a Euro style no divisions format anytime soon if ever. Suns would be 13th seed if it was top 16 teams in entire league advancing (plus I think teams would play to just "get in" if it were like that). But who wants to see the Bucks or Bobcats in the playoffs over Shaq, Nash, Amare, Grant Hill & J Rich?
since this thread is already shattered (and i was partly guilty)... i think that's the most reasonable and exciting format for the playoffs. lose the divisions (that's a baseball or football thing) and even conferences (the modern transportation no longer makes traveling a big burden). shorten the season a little bit to say 29x2 58 regular games. all teams play each other twice (one home & one away), so no back-to-backs or 5 games in 7 days (injuries will likely decline and intensity of the game may go up). best 16 teams enter the post-season. 7-game series.
They were the only team that could consistently beat the Rockets in the mid-90s. They did this by using illegal defense to slow down Hakeem on offense, and sharp-shooting Sam Perkins to take him out of the paint on defense. At one point, the Rockets had lost something like 16 straight games to them, including a 4-0 sweep in the 1996 Playoffs. It could be argued that the Rockets would not have won their championships if the Sonics hadn't been knocked out of the postseason in early rounds. It took trading for Charles Barkley to finally get past them.
