I can't think of another player whose contract numbers -- even down to its structure -- are so widely discussed and known by heart. And before Lin, I've never seen players publicly comment on another player's contract amount. People just didn't do that before, and don't do it with anyone else. It wasn't, and I think still isn't, considered kosher to do that. Yet, even though it is so widely discussed, the media rarely puts it in the context of other contracts, and the market value of above average PGs. It's similar with Asik's contract. There is no way to assess it intelligently without considering the going rate for talented big men.
