They are declining assets on a team about to be sold.. It's like McGrady, 5 years ago. They would want to sell high, instead of waiting until the injured player's only value is an expiring contract.

Just curious, I cannot recall ever hearing trade rumors about a player we traded for from Morey. The only one i can think of that may have been discussed was Artest, but i cannot remember.

Artest is the only one that I can remember, and it actually happened twice! The first time came the year before the actual trade when David Aldridge said that the Kings wanted Brooks from us in return and we rejected (very smart move) and the second time came days before the Donte Greene/Artest trade when an insider on another website claimed the Rockets were going to be trading for a big time player. He guessed it was going to be Iverson. He was wrong about the player, but he definitely knew something was brewing behind the scenes.

Thats why there is a high probability Morey's going in a direction none of us are even thinking about.

Robbie, this is what I cannot believe. That is why I was asking jopatmc to explain his rationale for GS doing this? So, if you feel you must be sarcastic, direct it toward jopatmc. However, that will still leave you sounding like a small donkey.

The deal may be Ray Allen and the Celtics' #1 or Allen + Marquis Daniels for McGrady.

yup...that has been the one certainty with morey. he does stuff that no one really expects. who knows if he will be able to do it this time, but we will see. hell, we may just get a deal that gets us under the lux tax level and nothing more. it would be disappointing, but it seems like there aren't any great deals out there.

If GS is able to get rid of their big contracts (Ellis, Biedrins, Maggette), it drives down the purchase price and makes it easier to facilitate a sale. I think this is why generally, when most teams go up for sale they look to cut cost/big contracts.

I don't see any reason why they would also include their draft pick though; the Rockets are receiving an abundance of talent back in that scenario, so I don't think the GS 1st rounder would be included. Further, Monta/Brooks seem to be too similar to co-exist, so I wonder if AB would perhaps be sent back in any GS Monta deal.

There's a new Insider article about how T-mac would love to finish the season in Philly. Anyone care to post? Thanks.

Tracy McGrady | Rockets Top Email

    T-Mac's suitors
Washington. The Rockets have expressed interest in Caron Butler and Brendan Haywood.
Philadelphia. Andre Iguodala would likely be sent back in return, freeing up cap space for the Sixers.
New York. The team could use T-Mac to try and make a late playoffs push, but they may be too far out of contention for that now, and likely don't have the parts Houston wants in return.
Chicago. This was a rumored spot early, but with the team playing well of late, it may be unlikely now.
A little over a week ago, ESPN's Marc Stein reported that talks between the Wizards and Rockets were still ongoing for a potential Tracy McGrady for Caron Butler swap, though nothing was imminent.

But late last week, ESPN's Chad Ford chimed in, writing the "hottest" McGrady rumor involves Philly swapping Andre Iguodala and Samuel Dalembert for McGrady.

And today in the Philadelphia Inquirer, Stephen A. Smith reports McGrady says he'd "love to finish this season in Philadelphia."

T-Mac's preference may not play a huge factor in the Rockets' ultimate decision on where to ship him, but if the team thinks Iguodala is the top talent they can get in return, T-Mac being amicable to playing in Philly certainly wouldn't hurt the process from running smoothly.

    Chad Ford
Iguodala might be too good to pass up
"While it's unclear what McGrady has left as a player, his contract makes him a superstar at the trade deadline: A team trading for T-Mac can wipe $22 million off its 2010-11 books. The Rockets are still trying to figure out how to use this asset -- is it a trade piece or an expiring contract to benefit their own cap situation? The hottest McGrady rumor involves the potential acquisition of Andre Iguodala (along with Samuel Dalembert). If they can get a player of Iguodala's talent for McGrady, that might be too much for the Rockets to pass up."
