Im to scared to start a thread. Will someone please make a petition or letter Dear Dr.Morey and BEG him for IGGY. 26 yrs old, never gets injured, we will have to lose lowry and scola to pay for dalembert, but lets go for it. Dont you want to go for it? a few more wins this year, and next year we have a juggernaut brooks/iggy/ariza/landry/yao

    I'd do
    TMAC + Cook
for Iggy + Brand + Unprotected 2010 1st Round Pick

In a heart beat. With that pick being in the top 3 and Morey being a draft wiz we could get that superstar that everyone craves.

amare is basically trying to tell the league that he will screw any team that just tries to trade to save cap and that he wants a contract where ever he goes.

It's not posturing. They won't trade if he leaves opting in next year as an option. He made that statement just like that for a reason. Amare did not want the Philly trade. That's why he said he may not make a decision until summer, they wanted to know before the deadline if he was going to opt in or not.

He killed the trade. Call it dead. As long as Amare keeps his intent ambiguous Philly will not conclude the deal.

And I'd do TMac for D Wade, Beasley, and three future first round picks.

A bit extreme sarcasm there, but in other words... keep dreamin.

With regard to these Philly rumors, one of two things is going to happen. Either Philly is going to back off on their demands to include Dalembert or Brand in a trade for Igudoala or the deal simply isn't going to happen. As mentioned earlier in this thread, my gut feeling is Morey will take whatever deal that: (1) Adds an asset, (2) Gets us under or barely missing the LT threshold and (3) Involves us taking back as little long-term salary as possible.

Bimathug has already gone to great lengths to explain why adding Dalembert, Brand or any other large contract (that comes in addition to whatever large contract our "asset" carries) will literally put us in salary cap hell. It's a pricey proposition and one that will likely cost us Scola and/or Lowry. Iguodala isn't worth that to me. Good player, no doubt -- but let's not forget that the ONLY reason Philly even wants to part ways with him in the first place is because he gets paid too much money to just be a part of the engine and not the machine.

A Caron Butler/Brendan Haywood and maybe Mike James (expiring) type package seems to make the most sense. This is the only scenario where all three components that I mentioned above seem satisfied. Mind you, I say this is as somebody that doesn't particularly care for Butler's game -- and yes, I realize Iggy is the better player. All things considered, this type of deal seems to be the way to go if that is indeed our agenda.

Last thing to do (mind you, this is my personal preference) would be to go after Marcin Gortat and hope that whatever money we would save in a McGrady for Butler + expirings type deal could offset Gortat's $5-7M per year (which he's well worth). But again, the Gortat scenario is just a personal preference of mine. The main point, however, still stands that a deal like Iggy/Dalembert likely isn't going to happen and that unless Philly balks on their asking price, don't expect much of anything to go down.

To get Caron Butler, we are going to have to give up just as many assets as we would lose If we were over the salary cap... We "might" lose Scola and Lowry If we picked up Iggy. I think Daryl and Les could work something out. We could move Shane or Trevor for expirings, maybe Yao will get a new cheaper deal. Who knows?

In the Washington deal, a few of our young assets will need to go because Washington does not want a pure salary dump. Phila does.

Ideally, we find a way to move Dalembert and we are all happy... :)

    How about:

Iggy + Lou Williams + Kapono

    for

    Tmac + Cook + 2010 #1

We take alot of long term salary but we get under the tax this year, while still having enough money to resign Lowry/Scola.

    Brooks/Lowry/Williams
    Iggy/Budinger/Taylor
    Battier/Ariza
    Scola/Landry
    Yao/Hayes/Andersen

Washington could very well look for a salary dump. Hell, that's the entire rationale behind them shopping Jamison in the first place. Jamison speculation aside, Washington could do a McGrady + sweeteners type deal for Butler/Haywood/James and end up roughly $10M or so under the cap this summer. Then, depending upon how the Jamison situation plays out (likely dealt for expirings), Washington could potentially be a significant player in Summer 2010 free agency. Not a bad way of hitting the 'reset button' considering how badly that team has nosedived.

But yeah, it would cost us an asset or two -- nothing major. The point is if you're asking which course of action an owner and GM would prefer between potentially losing an asset (likely Scola) to get an asset and avoiding the LT tax versus taking an Iggy/Dalembert package to get your asset, losing Scola and/or Lowry in the process AND almost certainly paying the luxury tax.....I think it's pretty obvious which option any front office would choose. A deal with Washington still badly undresses any Iguodala proposal I've seen by miles.

The market for Jamison, Butler and Haywood is much stronger than an expiring contract. We might have to deal Scola and/or Lowry, Chase, just to get those guys. Not only do we have to give up talent, but we get a mediocre talent in return. A talent that has lost a step on offense and defense, and just turned 30. If you are committed to building the best possible team around Yao Ming you bring in the best possible players, period. If you want to have the safety of hitting the reset button in 2011, you bring in Butler, who is not the player Andre Iguodala is.

The Philly trade without Dalembert is a complete bust. The Wizards trade without Haywood is a complete bust. I would prefer Dalembert but they are the two best available.

It's easy to play armchair GM with somebody else's money, isn't it? If this whole concept of a McGrady trade was as elementary as you make it out to be, all we would have to do is simply find the deal with the most talent and ignore every single other variable in the process. Basically, we could go for one of your wild Iggy/Brand proposals that you've been advocating on here. Sure, we come out with the most talent but our cap situation goes from $39M in guaranteed contracts next year to suddenly adding $28M from Brand/Iggy alone for a rough total of $67M in guaranteed contracts for 10-11 -- that's also before the draft, before free agency. The current LT threshold is $69.9M and expected to drop next year. This type of situation creates an absolute cap disaster. I'm sure you probably need no reminder that an owner is required to pay $1 for every $1 that he's over the LT threshold.

I mean, hell....do you think really think Dork Elvis looks at our team that happens to get killed at the five spot every night and thinks, "Sam Dalembert? No thanks!" unless there was another major and compelling reason forcing him to do so? I know you know you're stuff here, but you have to understand there's much more involved in these trade discussions than simply how much talent we can pilfer irregardless of the cost.

Are we committed 100% to winning rings?

The Lakers have a payrole of over 91 million...The Celtics are over 85 million...

To play with the big boys, you need to pay with the big boys.

67 Million? That is plenty of room to re-sign Kyle Lowry and Luis Scola. As far as I am concerned, we have 80-90 million to play with. That is, If we want to win with Yao as the core piece in the near future.

It sounds to me like you would rather be a bit worse, and have a reset button in 2011, which I can understand, but I do not agree with it. I think it could take YEARS to find another piece as dominant as Yao without trading away our core. Retain what we have, and add Andre Iguodala, Samuel Dalembert and Yao Ming next year, and watch out NBA... Sure, it is a risk, but a risk worth taking IMO...

knote32, it might be worth the risk, since Dr. Clanton is gone. Yao's problems started, after Clanton became the team physician.

The standard strategy of finding a star or two, paying them max contracts and finding role players that compliment them has bitten us in the ass multiple times. We seem to be stricken by bad luck and we've had some of our best success going against conventional wisdom. For that reason, I prefer flexibility over committing to more than one long-term contract via trade. Flipping McGrady/sweeteners for a Butler/Haywood type package both makes us better and limits salary obligations. It's not that i'm being too conservative or looking for us to take a step backwards -- far from it, in fact. I just don't think Iguodala is all that as a player. Sure, he's likely the best player available to us at the moment and I know he's a very good overall player. I just can't agree that he's worth absorbing Dalembert or Brand's nasty contracts. As Bimathug and others have mentioned, it far too complicates our cap and LT situation....and for what? A second tier star? He's not going to put us over the top. At least Butler's price tag is smaller, he'll be an expiring contract (and trade bait) next year and he won't come with any nasty baggage (i.e. huge contracts to absorb).

As a cap conscious fan, I can only "agree" to a cap crippling trade if it involves a Chris Paul or Chris Bosh type. At least that way we know we're getting top 10 players that could potentially put us over the top. But I won't hold my breath on that idea....

Agree Baller, Im more inclined to go for a Butler and Haywood trade instead of Iguodala, Dalembert or Brand trade. I may be the minority on this board, but I think from a basketball standpoint the rockets would be better off with adding Butler and Haywood if it didn't cost the rockets to much outside of Tracys contract.

You are right. We HAVE been strapped financially in the past. We have not been savvy enough to find good enough role players to fit with Tracy McGrady and Yao Ming. This year, we might have the best collection of pure role players in the league. The problem is, If we try to trade for a top ten talent, we are back at square one. We will have a top ten talent with a distinct lack of a supporting cast to make us successful. You can't get top ten talents with expiring contracts. That is why, I truly believe that whatever we get with Tracy McGrady is our very last chance to make a legitimate championship run in the next 4-5 years. Sure, Caron Butler and Haywood could sustain our franchise god forbid Yao gets hurt again, because we could easily hit the reset button, but I think that that kind of thinking is downright dangerous. What are the odds that we will be able to find a player as good as Yao can be, or trade for one, or draft one?
I believe that adding Andre Iguodala, Yao Ming and Samuel Dalembert to our current team would make us every bit as talented as the Lakers. We compete with the top teams now, we would beat them If you add Iguodala and Yao Ming.

    Now...

    Aaron Brooks
    Shane Battier
    Trevor Ariza
    Luis Scola
    Chuck Hayes

    Possible...

    Aaron Brooks
    Andre Iguodala
    Trevor Ariza
    Luis Scola
    Yao Ming

What more could we possibly want? We can win championships NOW...
And yes, I do think Andre Iguodala is THAT much better than Caron.

Fair enough. Have you by any chance watched Caron play this year?

Yes I have and have watched him play this year and previous years, I like his game alot and he reminds somewhat of a Paul Pierce type player.
