Billups is looking to get paid. this will be he's last chance to get 10 to 12 mill a year. noway he settles for 4.5 mill. i dont care how enticing it is to play with tracy and yao, noway he is gonna giveup 8 extra million a year to come here.

people are drawing the wrong conclusions from that article. all it said is billups is interested in the rockets but they only have the mle. it doesn't say he's going to even consider the mle.

rockets could put up a 12/13M offer, but it'd be a ballsy move, so much risk.

Exactly. Why do people keep talking about the MLE? They're suggesting we'd S&T for Billups so he can make his $12 million in Houston. It looks like the Rockets are not interested or else Morey would have visited on the first day of the moratorium as he did with Lewis. The Rockets seem satisfied on pg.

How the hell was he suppose to do that? Right after visiting with Rashard in Houston, jump in his Moreymobile, hit hyperspace, and land in Chauncey's living room?

A S&T with our limited trade assets would really hurt our chances of landing a decent PF this off-season.

Then again, Billups fits our needs at PG so well we could start Aaron Brooks at PF and be legitimate contenders.

    That's a 5-star reply right there ... "jump in his Moreymobile" -- hilarious :)

Every free agent needs an "out" ... if there's no threat of walking, it's hard to get the home team working for you. With Milwaukee not jumping and Orlando going after Rashard, Detroit may play hardball and refuse any sign-and-trades.

This is never going to happen, but you have to think Battier would be a great fit with Detroit, and Billups goes to the West. Who would be their starter at the point? Rafer is a backup.

still, it's nice that a big time FA see's our team as his out. that means we are at the top of other teams he'd like to play for (if the money is even).

if detroit refuses a S&T then i feel that he would be forced to re-sign.

hopefully, they are ok with S&T's and refuse to pay what he wants.

Billups is the right mold for a western conference point guard. You never pass up on that, especially considering we had our butts kicked by a similar PG..(Deron anyone?)
I believe it's actually more crucial to have a competent PG than a PF as long as we're in the west. MLE aside, we'd have to do a S&T with Detroit to acquire Billups. Of course they would want a PG in return as part of the package, so we send them Alston, Sura's expiring, Luther + future 1st rounder.
I would toss in Shane to that mix as well if we can get Amir Johnson in return with Chauncey. That still leaves us with the MLE to sign Joe Smith, cut JL3 and let Spanoulis go home. Out team is then set for a deep run!

    Billups/James/Brooks
    Bonzi/Snyder
    TMac/Novak/Reed
    Smith/Hayes/Amir
    Yao/Mutom/Amir

    what do you think?

I love Billups, but you would have to dump some guards: Alston, Lucas, VSpan, or Brooks. And, James is not going to be happy playing behind Billups.

I think Joe Dumars might catch you with a back hand for disrespecting him. any potential S&T for billups would begin with battier. they would laugh in your face at a package of alston, head, suras exp + pick.

If they need Shane to make this work, we want Amir included as well. Detroit has a glut of PFs as it is, so losing one who lives in the D League won't be a serious travesty in MoTown. With that in mind, my revised trade porposal is:

Houston sends - Battier, Alston, Luther, Sura's expiring, 2008 1st rounder
    Detroit sends - Billups, Amir

Posters are ignoring the all important "if talks stall with DET" part of the article but it has .00000001 chance of happening. However, James has a ring backing up Billups in DET. ;) :D

brooks who? :D we could keep brooks and mike james..and get rid of Jl3, vspan, etc...billups would get most of the minutes..damn, I can dream aobut it....I don't see it happening but the rockets have pulled off trades/signings in the past that I never thought were possible, so why not!!

Billups returning to the Pistons is an absolute lock. Forget it.

I dont know if Alston is going anywhere but Head + Battier is going to be a must, likely they will ask for someone with some potential like Vspan and then maybe more than just 1 pick.

Billups is very good, if we get him Rockets have 0 excuse for not winning it all whether or not we get PF.

One of exactly two players that aren't currently tied down for whom I would trade Battier. And the Lamar Odom trade talks have died down. The best all-around PG in the league. Morey, please get it done. Pretty please.

I also heard that Duncan, Garnett and Arenas wanted to come and play with McGrady as well
