I don't care if we have 17pgs, Billups makes us a legitimate contender. He adds toughness, experience, and leadership we drastically need. He would have a far greater impact than any available free agent PF.

It does not necessarily mean that Billups WANTS or WILL SIGN for the mid-level. It only lightly implies that. Mostly its saying its all the Rockets can offer outright.

They would probably say it the same way "There's no way that the Rockets can offer more than the mid-level for Rashard Lewis" if he was the player mentioned as being interested in Houston.

I would take him in a heartbeat.

Maybe we can have brooks sit on MJ's shoulders and have MJ Brooks at PF?

If we get him we would suddenly have lots of trade assetts and could get a decent 4. Resign Deke and Chucky and get ready to rumble...

One thing seems clear to me - gonna' be some changes made. This will probably be our most active off season in a while and we have had some active ones lately...

It's just his agent feeding the media. They're veiled threats. He's trying to force Detroit to hand out a contract starting at $12-15M.

I guess if Detroit won't budge at an offer I'm guessing starting at $10M. Then Rockets could come in with a package of Rafer+Sura+Battier+pick/s for a S&T for that $12-15M range.

    Billups James Lucas
    Bonzi Head Spanoulis
    McGrady Snyder Reed
    ??? Landry Novak
    Yao Hayes Deke

I would take Billups no doubt.

But I haven't seen him play that much. Is he really that good? Or is he more of a product of the Pistons system. He wasn't all that when he was with the Tpuppies.

He was the best player on the Larry Brown team. Nobody is a product of a Larry Brown system.

Wow. Billups specific set of skills are so suited to the Rockets that only a player of Duncan or Garnett's calibre could make a larger impact on the Rockets.

To say we're loaded at PG is an understatement. But to say we should not try to get Billups if its a possibility because of our PG is ridiculous.

What we're all forgetting here is that Billups can force a trade. Pistons won't want to walk away with nothing because if Billups walks they won't be able to sign a decent replacement or trade for one.

I can't see anything on our roster they'd want though other than maybe Alston as a temporary cheap rotation guy. Head could be a good backup 2. They like V-Span.

Whatever the case, no one would want to face a Rockets team with a trio of Yao, Mac and Billups. Even if the other 2 starters are Kirk Snyder and Carl Landry, the team would be a contender.

I don't think Billups is among the top 10 players in the league, but I'm a strong believer that his specific set of skills would make an impact on the Rockets that maybe 4 or 5 other players in the league could.

You know sometimes I wonder why NBA stars that are free agents don't just think, "Hey you know what, maybe if I join a team with 2 stars already for less money, we might win a championship!" Then I realize this is 2007 not 1985, and all they want is their damn money, makes me sad. :(

Ok, if Detroit are absolutely unwilling to give him $12M or Rockets trump them with a $13M offer. Rockets offer a package of Rafer + Battier and they stay under LT while Billups gets his $12/13M.

This could potentially be easier than the Rashard because they'll need a PG and still have the need to fill a roster whereas Sonics are already fully loaded from 1 to 15th man.

Some conservative moves like Hayes & Deke accepting the min, and trading Sura+Lucas+Spanoulis to get a c.$6M starting PF like Nocioni/Gooden, might be required.

Downsides are it would make future picks first or second round more important and T-Mac might have to be salary dumped in his final year.

    Billups James Brooks
    Bonzi Head (LLE/min)
    McGrady Snyder Reed
    (c.$6M) Landry Novak
    Yao Hayes Deke
