Don't we have enough? Already there are vital members of the team unable to play. Brian Cook, Mr. Yao Ming, a wingman who's name escapes me. Patients all, and I don't think you can chop them up into bits, even if you would like to do that to one or two, excepting Mr. Yao Ming, or Ming Yao, if that is the proper nomenclature. With all due respect, we have enough patients!

don't worry about asking questions, you seem to truly care and want to learn about everything regarding the team. I appreciate it and sure others do too. You just keep being the fan you are and ask away, there are people here that will be more than willing to answer your questions.

I like this deal. Actually, I think I suggested something similar in one of these crazy threads.

Only change I would make is that I would trade Ariza, not Battier. Battier is the heart, soul and brain of our team.

I've read all the post and made comments as well and whats really disturbing is what does this really say about Yao? I mean lets be honest, yao is considered the best post and big man in the league. Brooks is boderline all star, scola and landry and good productive players, and the other guys have shown this year they're good role players that can compliment and make the playoffs. Yet, when we talk about adding a high quality 26 yr old guy like Iggy and another quallity backup big like dalembert, posters say that won't be enough. Well, if thats not enough to get the rockets over the top, then what will be enough if yao is the franchise as some say? Do the rockets need to have 2 nore all stars in order to be contenders? How many all star types do the magic, cavs, mavs, and even the lakers have? When did it become the need that a so called franchise player needed 2 other all stars to be a contender? If adding Iggy who is also a boderline all star isn't enough, then the rockets are doomed and they're wasting their time with yao.

Why on earth would you keep Battier over Ariza? Ariza is seven years younger than Battier! If we had a team of Bosh/Yao/KMart, I'd expect us to be contenders for the next several years.. in which case I'd rather have Ariza (a player who will only get better) versus Battier (will only get older/decline).

Because the rockets were a 0 before shane got here. We were are terrible defensive team that played dumb ball. Shane comes in and now we work hard and play defense. Meanwhile, ariza is a zero. The big shots he made on the road in the playoffs were magically reversed. The steals that sealed the wins are also a farce and fake. We have to kep super battier or our franchis will fold up.

They need at least 1 all-star to pair with Yao. Iggy was never an All-star.
The NBA has shown that you need 2 or 3 players with multiple all-star appearances outplay the other teams with only 1 or no all-stars. Even then some teams with multiple stars never win like the Mavericks.

    Celtics
    Garnett-13 x All-star
    Pierce-7 x All-star
    Allen-9 x All-star

    Lakers
    Kobe-12 x All-star
    Gasol-2 x All-star, previously it was Shaq (15 x All-star)

    Spurs
    Duncan-12 x All-star
    Parker-3 x All-star
    Ginobili-1 x All-star

Magic, Cavs and Mavs didn't have enough to win. Lakers had Shaq and Kobe, and later had Shaq Gasol. When it was Kobe and borderline All-star Odom, they were only good enough to make the playoffs but not win it all.

There's a big difference between an All-star and Iggy, a player with no apperances on the All-NBA 3rd team or All-star team as even a reserve.

Arguing about all-star appearances is pretty worthless, IMO. Things like this year with Iverson getting in should give you pause when throwing out someone's all-star appearances like they actually mean something. That said, I think the All-NBA teams are more indicative of how well a player has played, but even those are extremely biased toward the big name players.

I think the issue for some of us is we've seen so few redeeming qualities in Ariza, it's hard for us to make the assumption that he will get better.

You haven't seen Ariza with a full compliment of players. You've seen him thrown into the role of trying to lead the team, and he isn't that -- but he also isn't being paid to do that.

Battier has been exposed even further offensively this year, but people want to give him a pass because they remember the role he's played on years past. Weirdly enough, those same people don't want to extend the same courtesy to Ariza because this is his first year on the team.

Ariza has gone through a lot of growing pains this year, but I think it will only help him in the future as a part of this team. If he hadn't gone through this, he probably wouldn't ever have the confidence to affect the game on the offensive end. I expect him to become a lot more efficient once we get back players he can play off of - much like Battier was.

Let's not argue about all-star apperances or all-nba teams. Agreed.

Let's see compare how Iggy fits in with previous championship teams.

Iggy would only be the the 3rd or 4th best player on the championship Lakers(Kobe, Gasol, Bynum,Odom),Spurs(Duncan,Parker,Ginobili), Heat(Wade, Shaq), Celtics(Pierce, Garnett, Allen, Rondo), and Pistons(Billups,Rasheed,Hamilton,Prince). He's not good enough to be 2nd option.

    Preach it!

Its as I have been saying. These haters pick the easiest target to blame, and someone new to the team, trying to fill new shoes fits that description perfectly!

You should compare to the position instead of getting through top & bottom from the roster.

How many all star games did parker make before they won a title. How many did manu make in the same time. What about rip, chauncey and even rasheed. Odom nor bynum has ever made a all star game either. My point is this, Brooks is really, really close to being a all star in this league. He has shown in the playoff and during the regular season that he is a really good player. Iggy at this point in his career is better than manu was in 03 and as good as rip in 04. If yao is who people say he is, that should be enough to become a elite team. Dallas is a elite team this year and how many all star will they have aside from dirk and maybe kidd. When they went to the finals, it was dirk the mvp type and howard the emerging all star. Are you going to tell me iggy isn't better or at least as good as howard back then? Brooks is as good as anyone else they have not to mention scola and landry. So why wouldn't Iggy and Dalembert make this team contender worthy? If all we had to subtract was tracy and add those 2 and yao comes back, they should be a contender if yao is what posters say he is.

What about the big plays in the playoffs last year. His playoffs last year is better than anything shane has ever did in the playoffs in his entire career. Doesn't that count for something?

Iggy is as good if not better than those 3rd options as you call them and thats not the point. He and brooks should be 2nd or 3rd options depending on how the game is going or who has it going. The real question and something people are missing is obvious. Of that list, is yao in that first option list? If he's not without a doubt, then we're wasting our time with any scenerios. I say that not to knock yao, but how often does a team have the chance to acquire number 1 options? All of those guys you listed as number 1 options with the couple of exceptions were drafted by their respective teams. If you expand the list and include Dirk,Carmello,Roy,Paul, and williams, that pretty much closes the deal.

its not as simple as saying Yao is a first tier player and that should be enough.

Yao is a first tier player yes, but his advantages and disadvantages are very extreme. he is a traditional post player. in order for post players to be able to work, even as skilled as Yao is, they need space. to create space you must have shooters. Iggy is a terrible 3 point shooter. If you make a trade for him and Sammy, where are your shooters? How do you give Yao space to work?

Just to illustrate this, in the hypothetical world where you make this trade, your starting lineup would probably be: AB/Iggy/Ariza/Scola/Yao. Of those, only AB has a consistent outside shot.

So yes, its a talented starting 5. but for the style of play you need to allow Yao to be successful, its mismatched. You need better shooting than that.
