This has come up before but its been only briefly talked about among clutchfans. What if Houston is targeting the 2011 free agency? With Yao, Battier and Daly's contracts coming off the books we would have freed up roughly $37-38 million. Its not the biggest free agency considering most of the big names are restricted, but maybe the Rockets can come out with a solid player or two.

You don't have to trade away all of them to get enough expiring contracts to get a Lebron/Wade. Two out of Landry, Brooks, Ariza, Lowry, Budinger, and Andersen thrown in with a Battier, Scola, Taylor, Cook, and/or Dorsey will get it done. We will still have plenty of veteran assets left over, such as Hayes and Battier (if he's not traded), along with the leftover young assets, to win a championship as a complement to a superstar and Yao. Remember, we're selling Yao+these role players to the superstar, not just the role players.

Unfortunately, were chock full of solid players and need a couple of guys in 2011 that are full-on stars.

The thing I would like about getting Dalembert is that I'm not sure Yao is going to return to play any meaningful minutes to start the season - in fact I'd suspect him to be around all-star break before he is playing 30+ minutes again - if he remains healthy. No offense to the Chuck fans, but I don't think I can watch another year of the donut team. Sam has 1 more year after this and while 12 million is extremely high for a backup C, I think Sam will log very significant minutes this year and next.

    Hey it's not my money...

This is what I'm saying. Dalembert is playing well this season. He'd be the perfect backup C behind Yao, and he'd be the perfect C for us right now in the starting lineup (instead of Hayes). I would do it if I were Les, but I'm not, so...

At no point in time has a healthy Chris Bosh ever been considered a better player than healthy Yao Ming. Unbelievable that there are men and women who have already forgotten that Yao is the best low post scorer in the world. Additionally, he is a fantastic, paint controlling defender.

What good is that when he's in street clothes half the time? U can have a bmw, but if it only works half the time, what good is it?

In 2011, Landry and Lowry become FA. If Budinger improves he'll be looking at a fat raise. Brooks becomes RFA. Scola, should we keep him, will have a fat contract.

In other words, no, we won't really have cap room still. Morey is correct when he says the way we can improve is through trades, not free agency.

Everyone in basketball would take Bosh's career over Yao's right now. Bosh is four years younger than Yao and is just now entering his prime. Yao is most likely past his prime and who knows what he'll be able to do when he returns.

Seriously though, how many dunks on Yao do we have to see to dispel the notion that Yao is a fantastic paint controlling defender?
