I think that waiting until this summer to move Bosh might be too late, when does he become a FA, this July? Usually you move a player like this the offseason before (or during) his last season on contract no?

I just can't get excited about dealing with the NYK, we'd also have to SnT Lee or he might leave us as well...

Neither David Lee nor Nate Robinson can be traded without their consent, since they are "1-Year Bird" players. Even if Lee consents to a trade, in order to sign-and-trade him, the Rockets would either need to (a) create enough cap room to re-sign him (by renouncing guys like Scola and Lowry) or (b) use the MLE. There is little chance of the Rockets doing (a), and there is no reason for Lee to agree to (b).

NEWS FLASH: The Rockets are not getting David Lee in any trade. Most likely, David Lee is not going to agree to ANY trade out of New York this season. He's hoping to either be re-signed by the Knicks to a fat contract (if they strike out in free agency) or be signed-and-traded by the Knicks, who actually CAN do this at any salary.

i'm sure DM and staff would tell us that the trade deadline is crazy every year, and that all the work they do rarely translates into anything tangible that the fans can see/appreciate.

i just hope that this year all the craziness translates into a significantly better & more complete rockets team. the weaknesses of the current roster are becoming more glaring every game.

I'm rooting for Iggy to come and be my new favorite rocket as McGrady my favorite player/rocket is gone.

Getting him though is easy, they're terrible, will probably keep on losing and DM will swoop in with his jedi mind tricks previously stating how he wasnt interested.

For Morey to be saying there is a better than 50% chance McGrady is going to get moved makes me think the odds are much, much higher. He is basically telling everyone this is going to happen without fully committing in his language. In the world of calculated, non-committal statements, "better than 50%" seems more like "almost 100%" to me.

With Dalembert's 15% trade kicker, I don't see how anyone would want to take him on.

I think a lot of people here have been forgetting/ignoring that phase of trading for Iggy.

Morey has obviously been shopping for other offers because of that portion of the trade (Dalembert).

If it was Andre for Tracy straight up! I'm sure it would have been a different story.

The question really is, do we think with a healthy Yao, adding Iggy and Sam to our team will make us contenders? If so, then go for it. If not, try our luck in the FA. I really think we could be legit contenders if Iggy meshes well with our style of play, and with Yao. Additionally, have SD gets us the size we need when Yao is out, and since we are going to want to keep Yao healthy for the playoffs, we need someone to fill his shoes. Obviously SD isn't Yao, but he should be good enough to be a back up while Yao rests. I say go for it.

agree, but name a time when one of Morey's moves was anticipated?

the rafer trade? complete surprise. not even a hint that it could happen before it happened.

stealing scola from SA? complete surprise.

drafting AB? drafting Landry? the Shane/Gay swap? all of them were head scratchers at the time.

everything in Morey's history here says that if we hear one thing from him, we should expect something totally different to happen.

i bet he plays a mean game of poker.

difficulty of that is that it wastes this season. the rockets do not want to go through this season with over half their salary cap sitting on the bench in streetclothes. its not a terrible plan B, but I think we would all prefer to see the rockets salary cap put to better use no?

I haven't been this wrapped up in Houston sports player movements since the Carlos Beltran saga. That being said...this season (up to this point) has been a complete thrill.

I disagree. If we make this trade it will only help our chances this year. It will give us a go to guy & a center in the middle. Chuck is great but lets face the facts we need someone taller...

& when Yao does get back, sky's the limit.

i meant that if Morey does nothing and just lets tmac expire in the offseason, it wastes this season. sorry if it was unclear.

All this means is that we are expecting him to pull off a great deal when the result will be that he pulls off a deal that is pure, unfiltered awesomeness.

For me, it's either go for the gold and win it all, or look at how to improve for the next season. No one remembers 2nd place. I'd rather waste money this year and have a better chance for a title next.

Here is my way combining these rumors into a monster rock taking out multiple birds (without the elegance and grace of a Hotoddie)

Rockets trade- Tmac, Battier, Cook, Scola, Brooks
    Rockets receive- Bosh, Iggy, Hinrich

    Toronto trades- Bosh
Toronto receives- Thomas, Scola, Battier, Cook, Brooks

    Philly trades- Iggy, Dalembert
    Philly receives- Tmac

    Chicago trades- Hinrich, Thomas
    Chicago receives- Dalembert

    Congratulations on a successful trade.

Due to Houston, Philadelphia, Chicago and Toronto being over the cap, the 25% trade rule is invoked. Houston, Philadelphia, Chicago and Toronto had to be no more than 125% plus $100,000 of the salary given out for the trade to be accepted, which did happen here. This trade satisfies the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Toronto gets two young talented players (Brooks and Thomas) for the future. They get Scola and Battier to keep them competitive this season, and Cook's expiring (whom they can just flat cut). They save money now, added some future pieces, and stay competitive this year.

Philly- they want to start over and it looks like they offered us this trade, doesn't matter to them where Dalembert goes (they don't lose any of their young pieces). They get to start over, free up a lot of cap space this summer, and can start developing there young guns more.

Chicago- Has been dangling Hinrich and Thomas for something that will get them out of Hinrich's contract. This trade saves them over 3 million this year and only keeps them on the book for one more year (Hinrich had two years left). They are also getting a legitimate big man that can give them some more inside D with Noah. Save money now, stay competitive, more free cap space sooner.

Rockets- Hinrich is a bitter pill to swallow but we got our chance at a new big three. Let's not kid ourselves, you bite the bullet for this. Hinrich will at least be a defensive minded backup that is more than serviceable. Hand the reins over to Lowry and we got a starting five of:

    Bosh
    Landry
    Ariza
    Iggy
    Lowry

In its entirety this will not happen, but any small variation of any component of this trade very well could happen before the deadline.
