    http://dimemag.com/2010/01/nba-trade-rumor-tracy-mcgrady-for-andre-iguodala-and-youth/

It could be said that Tracy McGrady is the most embattled NBA player in the League right now. (Alright, besides Gilbert Arenas.) But with an expiring $23 million contract and the Rockets simply not playing him, every GM is trying to figure out a way to make a deal. Playing a lackluster 7:35 minutes per game – that is before he’s sat out the past four altogether – things aren’t looking good for T-Mac. So while the Bulls could be the team that rescues him, apparently the Sixers have jumped in the mix with a proposed package deal built around Andre Iguodala.

According to a source close to the situation, the Houston Rockets have said they would only consider shipping McGrady to the Sixers if the Sixers “knocked the Rockets over” with the amount of young talent included in the deal.

The source said that the teams have not spoken in “more than a week,” but that a deal involving Iguodala “has a chance.”

I realize that things aren’t going too well in Philly right now, but to blow up the youth movement and send multiple parts – including Iggy – would be just too much. Are they really that dissatisfied with their young core of Iguodala, Lou Williams, Thaddeus Young and Marreese Speights so much so that they’d included some of them in a deal?

While Sixers fans are probably clamoring to trade Samuel Dalembert and Elton Brand, the same source said that the Rockets were unwilling to do so.

If I’m the Sixers, the only way I trade for T-Mac is if I think I’m going to be a player in this summer’s free agent bonanza. That, or if I want the two starting guards in the NBA All-Star Game…

I've been playing around with RealGM for a bit now and just wanted to post one of the crazier ones I could come up with...not too realistic ;).

    Successful Trade Scenario
    Congratulations on a successful trade.

Due to Houston, Philadelphia, Sacramento and L.A. Clippers being over the cap, the 25% trade rule is invoked. Houston, Philadelphia, Sacramento and L.A. Clippers had to be no more than 125% plus $100,000 of the salary given out for the trade to be accepted, which did happen here. This trade satisfies the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

If we are stuck with Battier and Ariza for the rest of time because Morey won't take Dalembert, I will be unhappy...

Yeah, I agree. A McGrady + Anderson + Dorsey trade for Iggy + Speights + Dalembert works. Speights replaces Anderson pretty much. Morey could probably work a deal for Dalembert to teams needing size (Kings and Blazers for starters).

I'd rather keep Dalembert as a backup for Yao, that way we wouldn't be at a terrible loss when we keep Yao's minutes in check.

    Typical trade talk...

Rox: Give us your franchise player and talent and we get 26 mil off your hands
    76ers: Piss off
    Rox: $$$
    76er: NO
    Rox: losing record, losing $$$$
76ers: you want our franchise player and young talent in exchange for junk? Not likely

    Yada yada yada

Speights could handle the load as a backup C. Dalembert has a bad contract and if any trade happens including him, we should see if we can move it.

If you're okay losing both Scola and Lowry this summer, then fine, enjoy your backup center. Any trade that brings in both Iguodala ($12.3M next season) and Dalembert ($14.2M next season, with trade kicker) will preclude Les Alexander from wanting to re-sign Scola and Lowry and pay $15-20M in luxury tax next year.

Bima, I wouldn't even waste my time with the fight anymore. You have more than laid it out for people. Some people get it, some don't. People sometimes don't want to be wrong or think they can be wrong for that matter. If we want to keep this team intact, it's going to be very tough to add a top tier player or add money regardless of Macs contract. I would love to add a player that would make this team better, but this is getting a little frustrating

Yeah, I know. It is frustrating. You're probably right about not wasting my time.

But I honestly do think that this team can be kept intact AND made significantly better next season IF (a) McGrady is traded for a good young player and expirings or (b) McGrady's contract is allowed to expire. Either way, the Rockets can afford to re-sign Scola and Lowry (to reasonable long-term deals, due to their restricted free agent status) and then still use the full MLE on a second- or third-tier free agent who slips through the cracks. The LLE is also available for the best available free agent come September. Oh, yeah, and Yao comes back. THAT is a team that could contend for a title, especially when they're effectively running Adelman's system.

Yeah, I didn't think about that. I would be ok with losing Scola, giving Landry the starting role. Additionally, with Iggy, we will want to give him alot of PT as well, so that would be more minutes to share. But, we cant lose lowry, need a backup pg.

Completely agree on all accounts. And I believe (knock on wood) Yao will be fine. I'm also not worried about people thinking we won't run as much with Yao in the game, sure didn't stop them with Tracy in the game. I'm completely enjoying this year but really expect us to be elevated to contender status next year. And not to suck up but thinks for all the info and reality, you are an asset to clutch

Why would Les not pay the tax If we have a legit championship roster? It is peanuts... Look at what he payed for a freaking second round pick...

Won't paying Luxury Tax also prevent a team from collecting any tax distributions?

No idea. How would that effect our roster?
