Dwight Howard was a free agent and Phillip Rivers is signed through 2016. What leverage does Rivers have to force a trade to Houston? You'd have to convince the Chargers organization, not to Rivers. If every team that doesn't have a realistic chance at winning the Super Bowl is going to trade their QB then let's get Aaron Rogers instead. He's the best QB in football and GB isn't going to win the Super Bowl any time soon.
Peyton Manning is about to turn 38, so I agree, he probably has a good 10-15 years left in the tank. Good call. You're right. O'Brien, Smith and McNair need to take Rivers into a dream within a dream within a dream and then convince him that his father always wanted him to play for the Houston Texans. He'll awaken, force a trade from the Chargers and they'll have no choice but to oblige. If we are lucky, Schaub will come along as well and be left in limbo, thus voiding the rest of his contract. Again, excellent analysis. I'm sure that Tate, despite basically tweeting that his Texans career is over, will re-up with us once he gets a glimpse of your recipe for championship contention.
lol @ this thread. There's no way we're trading our franchise QB. Especially with a successful start to the Telesco/McCoy regime. Appreciate the recognition though.
