dammit, i just turned the channel for a few minutes at the commercial break, knowing everett wouldn't knock one out and i turn it back to see lamb circling the bases. damn this team is on a roll right now. oswalt holds on just long enough until the O can give us a dramatic walk-off homer. amazing. oh, and the nationals lost, which is great. the braves need to sweep the nats, b/c the braves won't fade down the stretch.
Wow... love this team. Just great pitching and timely hitting, and it WINS! Lamb... walkoff. Oswalt... complete game win. Astros... 2 out of the wild card.

i completely forgot about that while watching the game. like extending a hitting streak with a hit in the 9th. 22 decisions to clemens' 12.

Oswalt has made 22 starts and has 22 decisions. Lamb kept the streak alive by hitting that homer. Does anyone know what the record for most consecutive decisions to start a season? The bullpen is now fully refreshed too.
This is one of those subtle things that makes baseball such a GREAT game. The fact is, a lot of teams have decent arms in the bullpen... but a lot of times, these arms get overworked over the course of a season, especially on a team where the starting pitching is poor. Now, with the Astros, their starting pitching is so great that the bullpen is virtually guaranteed to get more time off than most other teams in the league (and still end up being victorious in their games). Having a fresh bullpen is HUGE... it definitely played a role in the playoffs last year (munro going 3+ innings).
Awesome! But Garner made another blunder by pinch running for Berkman with 2 outs in the 8th. This game had the feel of an 11-12 inning game but Lamb becomes tonight's hero. Forget the Nats. We are 1 1/2 games in the lead in the NL Wild Card race. Don't tell me to stop dissin' the Nats because I won't. They are toast. The Mets (especially if they make a move) & Phillies are our main competition, followed by the Marlins.
Me too, out of town and went to a sports bar just to find out that the mlb package was not carrying it.
Because Bruntlett was faster - the way Morgan was swinging a double was not out of the question - and Bruntlett is much more likely to score on anything not over the fence than Berkman was. And since if we scored a run, Bruntlett was probably coming in as a defensive replacement, it kills two birds with one stone.
He wasn't likely to score from 1st on a double... and with Ensberg up, an extra-base hit was a definite possibility.
It's amazing how fun this team has become to watch...it's just like someone turned on the switch and all of a sudden we are a great clutch hitting team. Seems to be great chemistry around the team as well, just like the Rockets were last year.
I know, but the way Ugeth Urbina was throwing the ball, a double was unlikely. If there was 1 out or no outs, OK. But there were 2 outs. Even Alan Ashby acted surprised by the decision.

It was a risk. But it might've meant the difference in the game, and Morgan had crushed the ball earlier - I can understand why Garner made the move - even if I don't quite agree with it.
