The New York Police Department is investigating, and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner to determine exact cause of death. The official said Mr. Hoffman, 46 years old, was found dead at his apartment at 35 Bethune St. in the West Village neighborhood of Manhattan. Mr. Hoffman won the Academy Award for Best Actor for the 2005 film, "Capote."

Wow Very versatile actor. Would have liked to see him in more comedies. Such a shame. Condolences to his family and friends.
It's weird if true. For one, he didn't seem line a guy that'd overdose. For two, he seems to have been victim of recent death hoaxes ... So it'd be pretty coincidental if the hoax turned out to be true. RIP if true.
