I follow the Eagles pretty well... Anyways, Shawn Barber was good in 2002 and left the Eagles for a better paycheck because he had a break out year, and the eagles have a policy of not over-paying when they reach a certain age. But Barber ended up coming back to the eagles last year after he started to faulter with the Chiefs. Barber didn't really crack the LB core this last year back at the Eagles, and I'd have to say that was probably the weakest part of their D, aside from Trotter.

He's probably an ok backup, but he's by no means a game breaker anymore.

I'm a big Eagles fan, and Barber is a solid backup who can contribute alot in the nickel. He can backup all three posititions and doesn't have any reservations about playing special teams. You bring guys in like Barber to cover in the nickel and mentor young players. A good luxury to have if you can afford the roster spot

This is why we typically overreact to minor signings like this. Pretty much anyone we sign is an upgrade...

I've said this before. Anything to help get us to .500 where we'll have a shot at actually signing younger impact players who we won't have to dramatically overpay for. NFL players have super egos and free agents would like to believe that they can be the one to take an average team over the hump.

In a few years, the Colts, Ravens, ect... wil all be on the way down while we are on the rise. At least we've finally realized we need a mix of veteran leadership in the locker room to mesh with all the younger players we have on the field. I don't know exactly how fair or hard it is for an unproven Carr, Johnson, or even Robinson, it is to take the team leadership role from year 1 or two. Leave that to the proven vets that we didn't have at the very beggining of the franchise because we wouldn't sign anyone over 28.
