Yeah but on the other end Yao has to guard Gasol. Coaches make adjustments and what a move by Jackson if this is true. This is one thing I hate about the Lakers. They have the ability to play big and small. and when they play small there is still length and quickness on the court :(

this is worrisome. yao will not be able to contest pau's 15 foot midrange shot, similar to boozer's.

One adjustment by Phil and you sound like you're ready to toss in the towel. Grow a pair, like Yao Ming's.

Apparently they didn't see Chuck guard Bynum. It's hardly disadvantageous to have him out there. An easy call for Rick to make if Bynum's in without Yao in.

didn't the lakers sweep us during the season without bynum and pau guarding yao?

i do not like scola guarding odom at all.

    Sounds like reasonable adjustments.
I hope the Rockets are able to counter them.

Don't loosen up because of the last win. Stay focus and play with the same intensity.

As cocky as they are, Lakers is no joke.

It actually looks like Phil Jackson wants to play an offense vs an offense game. We need to be mentally ready and focus to beat the Lakers, and we have to be patient for sure as well.

I'm sure Gasol will try to front him, but he should fail at it because he's much weaker than Yao. I probably wouldn't have started Bynum in Game 1 If I was Phil though, but It's no risk for him if you honestly think about it.

Let's just hope we can pull this thing out.

Bynum is going to work on Hayes but Andrew is also going to front Yao at times as well.

But, yet we won game 1 in convincing fashion with one or both of them guarding him. He managed to score 28 points. Is that by the accident?

You realize that this line-up played a lot of time against us on Monday, right? Remember that Bynum grabbed two quick fouls in that game and was quickly replaced by Odom from the bench. Odom played 16 of 24 minutes in the first half. It's not like we haven't seen this setup before. It's not some "OMG PHIL JACKSON IS AMAZING AND SOOO SMART" type of move. It's not going to change a whole lot relative to Monday, really.

Adelman has shown he prefers Scola on Ariza and Artest on Odom if Bynum is out; at least that's what they did Monday. I expect the same. Both Ariza and Odom are great cutters/slashers, and Scola doesn't really match up well with either, but Odom is more likely to burn us than Ariza so you put the better defender on him. Odom is also stronger, something else that makes Artest a better match.

Also, realize this: Bynum played under 16 minutes on Monday. That's bench minutes, really. Whether he starts or not doesn't matter, it's how many minutes he gets.

Oh, and Odom played over 31 minutes.

This is hardly a change, in reality.

Exactly, and plus there will be alot of situational defenses, also, where Ariza could be guarded by Artest, like on Monday Night.

Gasol can front Yao despite being physically weaker because he has the quickness and length to do so. I also expect Odom and Bynum to take turns in fronting/double teaming Yao.
I'm glad that you mentioned about the point in being patient. I'm concerned that Brooks will resort to recklessly attacking the basket and forgetting to pass.
Lowry can't compensate for that. How will Wafer and Landry respond too is key.
Wafer gets impatient and Landry hasn't been focused enough throughout most of the season, because he has slowed down considerably.

Bingo. I don't think it really matters that much. Odom is going to get his minutes no matter what and it looks like the Lakers want a good offensive start to the game.

i think scola can guard odom. he slowed down aldridge in couple games and aldridge is alot talented then odom IMO.

Will the Lakers be able to adjust to the fact they have to adjust?

theres a diff between a jumpshooting PF and a PF who plays like a SF. no way scola can handle odom's speed and power. lets just hope odom shoots himself out of the game.

    Yeah.

It's got to be tempting to start Wafer instead of Scola.

    our defensive matchups:

    Brooks/ Fisher
    Battier/ Bryant
    Wafer/ Ariza
    Artest/ Odom
    Ming/ Gasol

It gives them a headache trying to figure out who Odom can guard at the defensive end AND it opens the key right up by putting four 3point shooters on the floor to let Ming take Gasol 1 on 1.

Gasol struggles to guard Ming and Odom is turnover prone against the quick hands of Ron.

    Happy days.

Mind you - I'd be happy if we stick with our starting lineup as it is - Odom can't guard Scola either.

the biggest mismatch right now is yao guarding pau. we know yao cant step out to contest jumpshots. i think pau gasol will go 7-7 on jumpshots in the first half. this is also the lineup they swept us in the regular season. in other words, we need someone yao can guard!!!!!!
