This wreaks of a desperation move by the Lakers. Totally contrived.

Only a matter of time before they fire D'Antoni and hire Brian Shaw and Howard stays in L.A... This is great news for Rockets fans. At least those of us who don't want Howard :)

Making Phil Jackson an "consultant of sorts" is a secret weapon?

Good lord, read the article. He already was one! He's arguably the best coach in franchise history and he's engaged to the president of business operations; of course he's around the facility and people take his calls. He's been "around" all year -- it didn't really help anything, since he's not the coach.

If you think Dwight is going to risk his future on a guy who isn't coach, GM or even on the payroll... you're just being silly. My goodness, stop letting ooox troll you and he'll go away.

I honestly dont care where this thread is at if it does relate to the Rockets in any way since the GARM is usually the forum I check first. Maybe the OP could have titled it to say-

"Rockets chances to get Dwight reduced? Phil returns to consultant role with the Lakers"

As it relates to the Rockets, they were always going to be considered underdogs to acquire Dwight... Nothing really changed here. I mean, how often to super max players leave their bird rights on the table to sign elsewhere, much less that team their leaving be the lakers? If Dwight was/is to leave the lakers, he would be defying history... regardless of Phil Jackson being tied to the team or not.

Im not saying the Rockets dont still have a very good chance, all things considering, but Rockets fans should never have counted their chickens before they hatched to begin with. Hopefully all the people here who have claimed that "Howard is a lock to go to Houston" can swallow a nice dose of reality now.

Until Dwight Howard signs on the dotted line with the Rockets, he is far from being a lock to come to Houston regardless of the Lakers bringing in Phil Jackson to an informal role.... which obviously doesn't help the Rockets chances.

Seems like they gave him a title for things he probably already does.

Phil Jackson Advice tidbit No. 1: Acquire best player in game; surround him with HOF'rs & all stars & role players, preferably below cost.

Phil Jackson is now a "secret" weapon? If so, that's the worst-kept secret of all-time. He's married to the co-owner of the team, for Christ's sake. The only secret worse than that is if Magic Johnson came out and admitted he was a Lakers fan.

Actually he wasn't "around" all year. Remember he wanted many demands to coach. Coupled that with the fact that they got rid of all his "guys" after his last year. I doubt he was helping out in any way last season.

It's Kobe's team. He still has a green light. Nothing has changed.
