Whatever. Rod the Mod easily. Phil had some good stuff, but it fizzled out quickly. I grew up listening to and being a fan of early Genesis and watched it devolve into what would become Phil's later solo stuff, and just lost interest. Invisible Touch? Really now. Peter Gabriel had to go back to therapy for that I'm sure. I'm not a big fan of anything either of them have done for probably 20 years, and I don't care how many Sinatra covers or disney tunes either has done.... it isn't representative of either of their best by my taste. That version of Ain't Superstitious doesn't do the tune justice really, 40+ years later... though Beck is as good as ever. I hear he's s tool, but he's one of the best guitar players there is. Yeah, I know, he's not in the comparison, but worthy of noting.
^ Señor DaveLoco, BullFan, no one said "Genesis or Rod Stewart"... I believe the poll is for post-Genesis singer Phil Collins vs. Rod Stewart. C'mon, now. C'mon. I can feel it coming in the air tonight.
i like phil collins and all. it was one of the very first if not first cds i listened of my stepdads on his bad ass techniques stereo when i was a little kid. but watch the first video in this thread and then read what you wrote again. and you will see the humor in it. AT LEAST I DO
Yes, but aside from the song you quote at the end and maybe a couple of others, I have little need for Solo Phil... and I think I stated that too. I was rating the individuals regardless of band.
Jackie - every time that Phil Collins is mentioned, someone ALWAYS references that conversation that BullFan posted - it's from the movie, "American Psycho". And CrazyDave, I hear what you are saying but you have to remember that Peter Gabriel was just as bad and IIRC, his song "Sledgehammer" either followed "Invisible Touch" or preceded it as the #1 song on the Billboard top 100 singles chart! Gabriel wasn't dismayed at the direction that Genesis was going in - the one who was dismayed was Steve Hackett.
Look at that subtle off-white coloring. The tasteful thickness of it. Oh my God, it even has a watermark!

http://www.people.com/people/article/0,,20219844,00.html he third time was certainly not the charm for Phil Collins, who's facing yet another pricey divorce. After six years of marriage and two children, the musician's former wife, Swiss-born Orianne Cevey, 35, has received a $46.76 million cash payout from Collins, 57, reports Britain's Daily Mirror. <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/nANmPPmfn_M&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/nANmPPmfn_M&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

WTF??? wheres the option for Tupac or Biggie! Or do they Lack the game or arent Above the standard rim of your taste?!?
Maybe he just gave in, watching the debacle. If ya can't beat 'em... ya know? Regardless, valid point. I still pick Rod the Mod.
