I vote we keep all 3...because obviously we need them all, and different matchups require different skillsets. DD
Exactly, I feel like Brooks coming back from injury wouldn't have the same value he would have had we traded him in the off-season, and really dont feel like the NBA is really hurting for quality point guards at the moment. Each brings their own unique skill-set to the table, and Ish can learn alot from playing behind Brooks and Lowry, developing a shot and defensive/passing respectively. I think it's also interesting to mention that the Rockets made their push, in I believe it was the second quarter, with Ish/Lee/Battier/Hayes/Miller on the floor. Again against the T-Wolves so take it with a grain of salt, but with not even a mediocre shooting line up but still found ways to score.
Im still not high on Ish. First of all, for the people saying that he is a better passer and playmaker than Brooks. Has it occurred to you that maybe the coach has differents sets of rules for different players. Why would you put Brooks out there and ask him to pass and not shoot when he's clearly so good at it.
If only we could combine Brooks' shooting, Lowry's defense, and Ish's passing and have just one point all star point guard. Ish is shooting worst than Rafer! Is that possible?
No Brooks = No PG that can shoot. Ish and Lowery are both AWFUL shooters. None of the 3 is a superstar that can do it all, so unless we trade one or more of them to attain that, we need all 3 to make up for each of their weaknesses
i like your 1,2,3 but i dont think Smith has chance to be like Rondo. Smith's body is too little and will become a defensive hole.
In interviews Adelman keeps on mentioning how Brooks needs to see people better on the floor. That's a facet of his game that he needs to improve on.
I think we should wait until after we play someone besides the Twolves to decide. Let Ish play and whoever Rick starts to win with is our guy for the future. Lowry and Ish just might be those guys or it might be Brooks when he comes back. Right now the knee jerk reactions on clutchfans of overreacting to the wins are just as bad as the losses. Its 1 win out of 5 to the Twolves.
I can pretty much guarantee you the winner will be the guy that Adelman thinks gives this team its best chance to win this year. As for Kidd and Parker developing a jumper, well it took Parker 2-3 years in the league(and he entered at what, 19?) and Kidd like, over a decade? I don't think the Rockets can wait that long for someone to develop a shot if they need it.
I am all for moving AB if we can get a quality player or picks in return, but here are some caviats that need to happen for this to actually benefit the Rockets this year. A. I need to wait and see how Lowry does as a starter to see if he helps the team win more than Brooks. Lowry has been great at coming off the bench and raising the tempo. Also his shot needs to improve to keep the defense more honest when they start scouting him that shot is going to be there. Would he really be the best fit starting with Yao and co???... we will have to wait and see. B. Lowry needs to prove that he can stay healthy long enough to play extended minutes. His wreckless abandon is great off the bench and is a game-changer but if he is going to start and play 35+ minutes a night, he needs to be able to play those minutes and stay healthy to build continuity with the starting unit. C. The Rockets need to be able to get another PG back for insurance from injuries. A solid veteran would do here but you might want to find a way to a bigger PG that can defend both the 1 and 2 guard spot. A veteran 3rd string PG will take up alot less salary than the 10Mil AB is going to command next year. D. AB needs to bring in value for a trade. If its bringing in a semi role player then no thank you. You dont give up an all star calliber player for nothing. Now most people wouldnt do this but if it doesnt look like the Rockets can contend this year then multiple 1st round picks would be worth it to me. If this team really wants a star that bad, then drafting the next Kevin Durant is the only chance they got.
Lowry's been inconsistent so far, even though we are winning games. The good thing is that he is still a big positive even though he is not playing up to his usual standards. If he ever starts shooting even at his usual inaccurate clip, rather than the current horrific clip, he'll have this PG spot sewn up.
I agree, and I think it would be great if we could package Brooks to get a two-way player to replace Battier as the starter at SF. The best scenario would be if that SF could also get his own shot at the end of games.
Lowry has not been good, he has had his moments, but tonight he had 6 assists and 5 turnovers. And he shot 1 for 6. The guy is flat out struggling, and he went under every screen at the top of the key leaving his man wide open for a jumper... His 1 on 1 D has been bad, but his energy, rebounding, and bulldogness has been great. And, on top of that, he goes right almost all the time, he is very right handed dominant. If I have seen one thing, it is that he is not good enough to be a starter, he has too many holes that can be exploited in his game. We are great with AB starting and Lowry on the bench.....as a change of pace bulldog.... But when refs are not calling Lowry's flopping antics, he really struggles as he did tonight. The Rox looked a lot better with Ish on the floor tonight.....we are lucky to have 3 good PGs......but AB is clearly, CLEARLY the starter. DD
I havn't missed Brooks for a second yet since he's been gone, then again we've played subpar Eastern conference teams. I just don't think you can win a chip with a PG who can't guard a chair. Now if Brooks was Nash or CP3, i'd live with his lack of defense, but he's not an all-star. He's a 6'0 3 point shooter who can be streaky at times.
I also don't think Lowry can start in the long run. His game is based on his effort and energy, and he can't exert that for 40 minutes every night. I don't think he puts enough points on the board or is efficient enough to play starter minutes.
I still dont' know why brooks is so loved... We need a SF that can score AND defend. Once we have that, lowry or ish can start, brooks plays off the bench if he's not traded for that SF.
next games with bulls and thunder will be a definite test for Ish to see if he can hang with the big dogs.
