He is. Better arm, can escape/evade pressure, can throw on the run, etc. Just needs more NFL experience. Yates is even more talented than Schaub. Had one of the quickest releases for a QB, comparable to Marino.

How is Schaub more talented than Keenum, in your opinion?

Umm....because it doesn't. Go research the NFL draft. Plenty og great players go late or undrafted and plenty of terrible players go in the top ten. Your little rant on draft doesn't mean anything. Good players are taken all over the place, or not at all. And Arian isn't the only example. I don't know about Yates throwing the deep ball better. Keenum has better anticipation and hits the receivers in stride. Yates isn't as bad as Schaub, where receivers have to stop and wait (in before someone uses the Denver game for Schaub, where the mile high air assisted his longer throws that game....just go back to his first td pass to AJ).
The reason why Case wasnt drafted was because people believed he had a weak arm due to a combine injury, his age, and competition faced in college. You being a UH football fan should know that Case was being looked over now, in the NFL, just like he was when first getting to UH.

Yeah I have no idea what you're talking about with Antonio smith. Knowing the QB position doesn't mean you are the best to play it. Don't worry, youll be eating crow once the QB controversy between Keenum and Schaub starts. If not this year, in Schaub's large guaranteed year (barring injury), then next year when he isn't costing nearly as much.
And Yates knew the system better last year, but didnt play like it. Keenum is playing much better and looks much more comfortable.

And?? I don't think it is a secret that Keenum played better. It's why Kubiak then let Case go first after Schaub. Come on now. Metrics? Please. its not all about metrics, but qb instincts and what goes on on the field.

Nothing spectacular? You didn't see him go through his reads and make the perfect throw over the shoulder to Jean? He only had two batted passes and one of those was because the d lineman broke through at the last second because the guard cheated to help the RT. On one of those Lemon "overthrows", Lemon was bumped which is why he couldn't get to the ball (second pass). And you really don't think a better run game helps improve the passing game? You really trying to dismiss that? Really?

If Keenum was no better than Yates then he would not have moved in front of him and there would be no backup QB competition. And my evidence for Yates regressing and not improving is my own two years. In fact, it really started his rookie year. In the Atlanta game we saw him evade pressure and get it to Arian for a short pass and the cincy regular season game we saw him scrambling for twenty yards. All that info fed to him by five different QBs started affecting him. and now, he looks no better than he did his rookie year.

Don't worry though. Continue to doubt case like everyone did to him coming out of high school and then at college. Nothing new here, doubters gonna doubt.

Never thought we'd see Keenum fanboys that are as irrational as the VY jock sniffers, but it's actually happened.

So, by your assessment, there are approximately 60+ QBs in the NFL that are more talented than Schaub...yet, Ron Jaworski, who basically spends his days evaluating QB play, thinks Schaub is top 10 in the NFL.

Keenum most definitely does not have a better arm than Schaub...Im not sure where you pull that from. The biggest knock on Case is his arm strength. And no, Im not talking about being able to throw the ball 55 yards in the air. The only advantage that Keenum has to Schaub is that he is mobile. But then again, David Carr has that advantage over Schaub too...and Carr has better arm strength than Schaub. Does that make DC more talented?

It was talked about, even before the first preseason game, that Keenum would get 2nd team reps in the 2nd preseason game...this isnt a situation where Keenum passed Yates after the first preseason game. There was already a predetermined game plan for the QB reps.

logic seems to fly out the window when Schaub is the subject. OMG, Yates is better because he can evade defenders. Nevermind that the Texans score ten less points when yates is the QB.

Really? You never saw this coming?

Keenum has been playing well though, and that's a good thing.

Agree to disagree. You provide no substance or basis for argument, just generalities. It is clear that you haven't been following training camp and what Kubiak says in the interviews. By the way, getting through the reads to find a wide open receiver is something every QB in the NFL can and should do 99 out of a 100 times. He was seriously so wide open I was just in awe at the Dolphins' failure that play at the game. It was a beautiful play call to get Jean open, not really an indication of a jaw-dropping QB play. Good pass though.

lol. It is pretty insane, but no where close to the early years of VY short career as a starting QB.

Yes, ron jawroski is the end all, be all. There were plenty of people disagreeing with the list.. did you hear sage rosenfels on sports radio 610 the other day? He said kubiak's system is very qb friendly. It's easy to rack up yards in his system. Schaub's immobility hinders the offense.

And its clear you have no idea what you're talking about bringing up arm strength. Keenum has a quicker release than Schaub, throws receivers open, and has great touch on the shorter passes. Where do you get that Schaub has a better arm than Case? That's hilarious. Even Yates has a better arm than Schaub. When people say Case does not have arm strength and that that is his biggest knock, then its clear all they did was read.combine crap and have never watched the dude play. You have got to be kidding me with the arm strength thing. Yes, keebum can also throw the ball 55 yards in the air hitting his receiver in stride (something Schaub can't do), but you say its more than that, sk what else are you talking about? There is more to arm strength and I already listed those so please go with that "is DC better than Schaub'' crap.

This is why discussing football on a basketball forum is hard. I can't believe the counterarguments. It's like discussing basketball on a football forum.

    Post a link.

I think that Keenum and Yates are close enough that Yates will stay the #2. Ideally, Schaub stays healthy and who is #2 is irrelevant. Both make the roster and Yates doesn't take a confidence hit by being demoted. The real battle happens next offseason. If they continue on their current trajectories, Keenum will be the #2 next year and Yates will be traded for draft pick(s).

I'm not sure about before the first preseason game. But Kubes definitely wanted to get Yates and Keenum equal reps with the 2's and 3's.

    http://blog.chron.com/ultimatetexans/2013/08/battle-for-backup-texans-quarterback-heats-up/

[rquoter]“What I’m trying to do is get him and T.J. in the exact same situations with pretty much equal reps, so that’s something that may be a topic this week,” Kubiak said Saturday about bringing in Keenum before Yates against the Dolphins. “They’ll continue to play a great deal. It’s a very good battle going on.”[/rquoter]

They're both battlefighting for the #2 spot. It doesn't make sense to always evaluate one against the 2's and the other against the 3's and 4's.

There's never been anything said about Case actually passing Yates on the depth chart.

Yeah, but if Case had not shown improvement and Yates had not looked stagnant, then I highly doubt there would switch spots. McGee may have gotten more burn the previous two games and the next.

Pancakes talked about it on the radio before the first preseason game when it was obvious that Case had improved to the level of TJ.

And regarding arm strength... You bring up things that have nothing to do with arm strength, like having a quick release or soft touch, lol. Arm strength is how quick the ball travels once released... Like on a 20 yard route. Sure, Schaub is immobile and leaves a lot to be desired on deep throws, but he's one of the best in the NFL in short and intermediate passes. And I'd much rather have that scenario than having a qb that can go deep but isn't as stellar in those intermediate routes.

What do you think Case is on short and intermediate passes, due to his quick release and soft touch? In addition, he can go deep and hit his receivers in stride. And he can throw on the run and evade defenders when they get into the pocket. Just let him gain more experience at this level.

FYI, release and touch on passes involve arm strength. It's not just how far you can get it downfield.
