You know who had some clutch shots for us recently: Boki. You know who has some of the most heart on this team: Rybo. So why don't we go out and get Boki, and start him and Rybo? On second thought, why don't we get well rounded players who are consistent and can play their own position?
How many playoff game saving shots has Boki hit? can you REALLY compare Boki's stats to Tim Thomas's stats with the Suns? Rocket_BOY, listen to tinMAN, Tim Thomas has BOTH OF THESE CHARACTERISTICS plus the stats to back it up.
Yes. Tim Thomas has shown the world he is suitable to play in phenix by his clutch shooting and heart. He at the same time shows to the world that he can not rebound or block or other wise defend the paint to save his life as a PF. He was cut by teams with reasons. The rockets absolutely do not need him, unless he accepts minimal salary.
why dont you go to the Rockets office and tell them that. meanwhile, getting Tim Thomas has made the Suns management look like geniuses. You are the type of guy who would trade Robert Horry away. You are the type of guy who would trade Sam Cassell away.
I was not talking about his achievements as a NBA player. He could be the 2nd coming of Michael Jordan but that has nothing to do with my post. We are talking about 3 point shooting here and I just think it's not a good sign if our 3 point specialist is shooting a career 37%.
he's versatile, like Robert Horry, he can play the 3 and the 4 and the 2. he can handle the ball. he can shoot. at the same time he causes big mismatches cause he can hit the 3. Horry like. so what if he can't be Dennis Rodman? thats we have 4 other players on the team. what did we sign Stromile for? cause we like his first name? So what he got cut? Sam Cassell got traded for Marco Jaric. Look at the TWolves and look at the Clippers. Look at the Clippers now.
thats not a bad percentage. who the hell shoots 50% from the 3 point line? Look at Horry's career 3pt stats. http://www.nba.com/playerfile/robert_horry/ 34% its not how many he makes, it's how many CLUTCH 3s he makes. dude who are you? CRAIG HODGES??
I hope you guys realized i started this thread 2 years ago and we still have a power forward problem and that Tim Thomas is shining in the playoffs. basically i'm light years ahead of you people. I'm almost from the future.
Well, let's say he can be our clutch time 3pt shooter then if you think he has done enough to prove that he's that clutch. Have a nice day.
Guys Guys Guys, enough with the overpaid nonsense, his contract is up, he is going to be a free agent after this year, i thought someone would have found that already, I'm not making an argument for him, i could really care less at this point, but he is athletic, not a good defender however. But one important thing he COULD do is help us spread the floor, if you have a tim thomas at pf and he is leaking out to the 3 point line, it makes it very difficult to double yao with the opposing teams PF. This past season in Pheonix he has really looked like a young robert horry. Making clutch shots, i dont think he has the same defensive intensity though. And you guys are grabbing his carreer numbers and putting them up here, first of all carrer averages mean nothing, it all depends on what you got around you, i.e. phoneix. Second he has been coming off the bench for a long time in his carrer so bench wise, those are pretty good numbers.
I agree with you up untill teams cutting him for a reason. He was cut from chicago, because his contract was up at the end of the year, and they wanted to develop their young players rather than have him hang around for one season.
this entire series has proven that he's CLUTCH! what do you want? Robert Horry? Michael Jordan? they are #1/2 in most 3s in the playoffs. I think we can't get either one of them. I'd take a bunch of players with heart and clutch shooting ANY DAY over a bunch of players based on sorting of stats that you guys found on NBA.com. career 3point percentages that we would NEVER have according to GM RocketForever Sam Cassell .335 Mario Elie .365 Robert Horry .345 Vernon Maxwell .320 Clyde Drexler .318 Kenny Smith .399
Tim Thomas was stuck at the end of the bench in Chicago for the past 2 seasons, a couple good games isn't going to make him a bonafied starter. If we're gonna get another PF, I want one that can consistently rebound the ball and defend the basket.
This is basically the Wrath of Khan, except I win. Rashmon, I knew that given the right opportunity, Tim Thomas can use his talents optimally. you got to look at strengths and weaknesses. Shaq isnt going to be using his talents correctly if he took outside jumpers. Stromile is the perfect example. Stromile on the phoenix suns or nets would put up Marion numbers. Stromile on the Rockets...
I agree we need someone who can rebound. but we STILL NEED MORE TALENT. Tim Thomas is versatile enough to play 3 positions. We can get a rebounder and get Tim Thomas. why do all you people think we have to get one player that does everything except mop the kitchen sink?? No KG isn't coming!! In the meantime we have to stockpile talent and make us a a deeper and athletic team. our team is slow. so juwan has to go! look at the Spurs/Phoenix/Suns/Clippers/Detroit/.. they have athletes that can play multiple positions.. Tayshon Prince, Marion, Thomas, Brand, Rasheed etc Tmac's back is a MAJOR PROBLEM, so we need as much scoring as possible.
Exactly. I don't have anything against Tim Thomas but a couple decent playoff games and 1 clutch shot isn't going to make me think he can be the starting PF for us. He DOES NOT rebound the basketball, mainly because he isn't a PF. And he DOES NOT play defense, Odom went from scoring 14ppg in the regular season to 20ppg. Odom is a good player but when it comes down to guarding Duncan, Garnett, Dirk, Sheed, etc...who are you gonna put on them? Tim Thomas? Like I said, if you're talking about bringing him in to play SF, then I'm all for it (assuming he is at decent price) but saying he can play PF just because he can stretch the floor is a stretch. We need a PF that can do a lot of things well.
i would bring him in as a PLAYER.we have stromile, juwan is about out the door. He's playing PF now with the Suns. and when he was with the Bucks, they had him and Big Dogg Robinson on the floor at the same time on occassions. we're NOT going to get a PF that can do a lot of things well. What's going to happen? we're trading Juwan for KG or Dirk? Not going to happen. We need scorers. Look at Dallas thats not a normal team. Dirk isn't a big rebounder and a NORMAL PF.
