why? some people on here arent even watching the playoffs and just googleing stats. how on earth do you start your post ' i didnt watch the game, but..' some people here dont even root for sam cassell, they dont deserve my time cause they dont know the rich history of the houston rockets. once again, i'm in favor of having a basketball/rockets test on this board, the people who can't answer questions like 'who was the rocket hero that beat the lakers with a last second shot in game 5 to send the rockets to the finals against boston, should not be able to write a single character on this page' i'll take a JAZZ FAN over any uninformed Rockets fans any day. if you come to Clutchfans, you better be true to the Rockets, thats from Calvin Murphy all the way to Yao Ming.
i agree with you on THIS post, though not to the degree of "should not be able to write a single character". But it'd be fun to see the rankings next to our membership status on tim thomas, i maintain what i said 2 years ago. And 2 rounds of WIDE OPEN shots doesn't change that. Especially when everyone with even a remotely decent shot has succeeded shooting in Phoenix. Stick Matt Maloney over there and he'll be hitting 2.5 3's per game. The Rockets O doesn't work like the Suns', and TT wouldn't succeed in it. And he most definitely would kill our D. He'd also allow guys freely into the lane. With no one else big on the team, you'd put Yao into foul trouble. And I echo Fegwu...he has a bad history, and I wouldn't be willing to give him much guaranteed off 1 playoff series. A lot of people have said it, but still..Jerome James anyone? We all know how this works often enough. PLUS...his best years came in Milwaukee. You know as well as anyone that Cassell on someone's team can inflate someone's stats beyond their capabilities
i think TT works well in phoenix, but he still has a chance because of the ex-Knick factor. hey, the Rockets have a team with bad histories. Tmac's history and Juwan's history and Rafer Alston's histories are pretty bad. everyone deserves another chance, plus we can play defense from getting Tim Thomas. Tim Thomas on our team is Tim Thomas not on Dallas/San Antonio/Phoenix etc
yes i tottaly agree with you, JVG always makes everyone better at D, i think tim thomas is the perfect PF fit for our team, cuz we know he can be an impact now, and if we draft williams, we won't be sure if he's gonna help us quick, and if he dosent till like 3 or 2 years later, t-mac will be gone, i say we get tim thomas, exactly what JVG wants.
Agree, this is a senseless thread, our best chance to get him was when he was bought out by Chicago. He ain't coming, we are more like Atlanta or Charlotte rather than Phoenix or SA when it comes to attracting impact players on the cheap. We are however the biggest magnet for the NBDL.
its a great thread. a thread that proves i saw the future 2 years ago about tim thomas. the rockets need firepower. given the frailty of Tmac's back, we need to load up like Miami or Dallas with talented scorers and versatile players. Look how Dallas, the Clippers, the Suns, Miami are moving people around in positions. Toine walker isnt a real PF, Brand isn't a center. Tim Thomas has to guard Cassell, Brand, etc. he'd be a great edition to our team. here's my line up Alston -passer Tmac -scorer Thomas -scorer Swift -role player, block shots, dunks Yao -scorer
Hmm Tim Thomas D-ing up Dirk check hitting open 3pointers check Driving to the basket check trash talking check
Matt Maloney became a playoff legend, and made a nice living out of hitting wide open 3 pointers... now where is he? J/K... Thomas is a solid player when he's on a good team... but when things go bad, his attitude checks out the door.
tt is en fuego tonight...he's shown that he's clutch...bring him to h-town i especially love the trash talking
You know...I really wonder. It seems counterintuitive to suggest Tim Thomas at the '4' in this Rockets system. But I'm really beginning to wonder. Van Gundy said himself that they want someone that can spread the floor. Check. He's playing atleast acceptable defense on Dirk. Check. And I absolutely love his attitude. Biggest check. Look, it's not like we're going to find Otis Thorpe or Charles Oakley anytime soon. The ideal situation would be a solid defender at the '4', but they don't make those anymore. Why settle for someone mediocre who fits a "mold" when you can add a rare talent offensively? You obviously can't have big money tied up in all 3 of Swift, Howard, and Thomas, but I think if you can unload one of the first two, you have to sign Thomas to the MLE. I think it's a risk they need to take. He's stated that he wants to resign with Phoenix but I don't know if they will be willing to give him big money considering that Diaw is up for a raise, and Bell, Nash, Marion, and Stoudemire all have long deals.
The only way to get him to look in our direction is to convince him that a) He won't get any minutes in PHX next season and b) promise him minutes and shot attmepts in H-Town. I just happy he's realising his potential finally, even if i expect more out of the defensive end. Still not convinced though.
Toine is playing the 3 for Miami, Haslem is playing PF. Haslem plays D, rebounds and shoots open jumpers form 15 ft.
Trade Swift or Howard to the Raptors for Mike James, sign TT at the MLE, draft two guard/sf. Mike James/Rafer Alston #8/Luther Head/Keith Bogans T-Mac/#32/Bogans Tim Thomas/either Howard or Swift Yao/Deke I can certainly live with that lineup.
Nope Never Tim will not be as well in our system and if he gets a contract. . he will revert to type Rocket River
