Just scouring the league for fallback options to get us a 4/5 for this season if the 3-way talks break down with NY. 1. Chris Wilcox-$3 million salary with player option for next season. Cook plus cash could possibly get him. 2. Brandon Bass-$4 million salary but 3 or 4 years left. Don't know about that. 3. Troy Murphy-High salary but only 1 year left. He would be a fit but don't know if we want the contract for expirings of Kenny Thomas and Brian Cook. 4. Brad Miller-not really a 4. High expiring salary. Perhaps Chicago would flip him to us for Thomas and Cook if we gave them Jermaine Taylor. 5. Ronny Turiaf-Could we get him for an expiring? Would we want him? 6. Nick Collison-Would he be worth an extra year of salary for our expirings? What if we could get OK City to throw in Ibaka? 7. Nazr Mohammed-Would Charlotte part with him for an expiring? Others? What could we do with Kenny Thomas, Sergio, and Cook to get a PF/C that can play if the NY deal breaks down?
Don't forget this is not a win now year. Guys like Brad Miller are expiring. We can worry about the PF/C position next year when Yao gets back and we are in for the win!
What incentive would Detroit have to move Wilcox? Doesn't he expire this season but has a player option that he's likely to decline? Seems like the kind of guy we'd be more likely to sign in the off-season with the MLE.
No way, why would we give up Sergio for that? Harrington is an okay player but he's expiring. We're not trying to win now, so we'd be giving up a young asset for nothing.
Why are people even worried about PF? We need to worry about Center. Scola/Hayes (and Kenny Thomas?) is not a bad PF combination. The real problem is that it makes the lack of a Center even worse now that Hayes will probably be logging serious minutes at PF. I don't think we want Chuck Hayes on the court for 30 minutes a night split at PF/C. The team needs a 6'10" player at C who can finish above the rim.
Even though Bass has a pretty lengthy contract, I think he'd be a good acquisition if the Magic were willing to part with him. He's currently rotting on the Orlando bench since SVG loves those 4's who can stretch the court (Lewis & Anderson), so he might be available. However, I'm not sure what the Magic would want in return.
