If that's the only way he communicates, his teammates will tune him out. If you've earned respect, people really listen when you blow a gasket. Leadership is also knowing when to yell.
Let me get this straight. Peyton Manning blaming his offensive linemen for not blocking (blaming others) - good leadership. T-Mac saying others need to step it up - bad leadership.
Yup. It's amazing how so many sports fans don't grasp how irrelevant leadership is by itself, and how it's directly related to how well a player plays as an individual. If David Carr had done what Manning did in the above clip, it would've been cited as an example of how he had "lost the team" and how he was a "complete joke." But when Manning -- a successful quarterback on a winning team -- does it, it defines leadership. Newsflash: the Colts don't win because of Peyton Manning's leadership. They win because of his incredible talent as an individual player and very strong surrounding talent. Likewise, the Rockets don't lose because of Tracy McGrady's leadership -- they lose because of his individual game flaws (injuries) and surrounding talent (without Yao) that isn't so good.
Yeah, Peyton Manning would never criticize his teammates in the media. Oh wait... http://prayformojo.blogspot.com/2007/11/peyton-manning-chalks-bad-game-up-to.html http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=gallo/060116
You just compared your Mexican basketball game to a pro football game....just pass the ball swolyd thats all we want man. He should have just used smileys.
Cat is a known Manning Hater... Lets get this straight... I'd rather have the "leader of my team" screaming at teammates who aren't doing their job in the heat of battle than a pouting, grimacing, whiner who would rather stare down the refs, and sit on the bench with a blank stare on his face than actually bother to score more than 2 points in the money quarter.
What negative did I say about Manning? Did you actually take the time to read that I wrote? I gave him credit -- he's a tremendous player. My bashing was on the ridiculous weight given to "leadership" -- nothing to do with Manning. All I was saying was that Peyton is a great player based on the split-second decisions and throws he makes in the heat of battle, not a random, irrelevant profanity-laced tirade on the sideline.
Of course, you're assuming that just because Peyton Manning says they're not doing they're job, he's right. There's no possible way he could be just shifting the blame, right? Yelling at someone in front of the entire team is not leadership. If T-Mac started yelling at people to do what they need to be doing everyone here would be calling him out on that, too.
That's the sign of leader. Passion. Every play counts to him. But now we have the best evidence of his passion for the game.
If my job entails having someone's knuckles on my nuts 80 times per game and hundreds of times during practice per week. I'm probably going to try not to yell at him. Paybacks are a b****.
A true leader doesn't have to yell at his teammates. Especially teammates who allow you to win MVP after MVP. Without that O-Line, Peyton Manning is nothing.
