OBP is efficient yes. I've sort of stopped looking at Beane like a God figure ever since he accepted, then turned down the Boston job. Fox 26 just reported that MLB sources have told them while meeting with Andy's agents, the Astros have offered Andy a three year deal. Neither side would comment on the record.
I think the Yankees will be push harder for Pettitte if Boston get Schilling, I hope Drayton does everything he can to get him, if not we may have to have the Big Rig be our 3rd or 4th starter.

Can someone from New York please provide us a description of the taxes that are payable when working in New York City. It has been a few years since I've worked there, but I recall a city tax and a state tax that combined to something like 11% of my paycheck (or was that just the city tax?). What I'm getting at is that the Yankees would have to offer several million more than the Astros just for the offer to be equivalent on an after-tax basis. This works well in the Astros favor. This isn't even speaking to the cost of living differences between the two cities. $10mm in Houston is a heck of a lot more value than say $14mm in NYC.
Hmm...10 mill a year to come home, no state income tax. How much more could the Yanks offer? Sounds like a pretty reasonable offer...we'll see how he takes it. A stud lefty in his prime would look so nice next to Oswalt and Miller. With Hernandez primed to return as well as Redding and Robertson, plus our bullpen lead by Dotel/Lidge, we could be ready for next year pretty early.
I wonder how that would break down per year. Hopefully, it'll be 12-10-8 or something like that. I'd hate for it to be the other way around, where we'd be paying a player out of his prime what he would command at, or near, his prime. 3 years, 30 mil is a great starting point.

It would be smart to do it that way but Drayton will likely not be the owner the season following the all-star game. I could see the Astros spreading it out like 7-9-14. I really think the difference in this deal is if the Yankees will give him a 4th year. If so, I think Pettite will sign back with the Yankees.

I'm sure he meant to say that if Pettitte is willing to play for $4 million less per year, he's not playing in Houston.
Oswalt Miller Batista Redding Carlos Petitte will be too expensive and Batista is a better option at about 2-3 mil a year.
Lest we forget that Gammons also guaranteed that Davey Lopes was absolutely going to be the next 'stros Manager...until Terry Collins got the job. He has no source credibility whatsoever; at least where the Astros are concerned.
