He's as good of a big-game pitcher as anyone in MLB. He's also capable of going 7+ every time he pitches, something we sorely needed. Look at Dotel and Lidge's stats from the 1st half and 2nd half of the year.
We've had players who kept us in playoff games, pitching wasn't the problem. Even Jose Lima kept us in playoff games. I would like to see Andy here, just not for that amount of money.
i can answer the question seriously...but it doesn't matter...you've already made up your mind. it's a rhetorical question to you.
That is the same thing I was thinking, when Dirk was here he kept pitchers in the game, he had faith.
could that be because he had players who earned that faith. let me know the next time williams gets to manage the quality of starting pitchers that dierk got to manage here. the astros' strength last year was their bullpen...jimy used it. good for jimy, and good for the astros.
Its not a rhetorical, question, I already stated in the other thread in the hangout that if they signed him for $7MM I wouldn't be concerned. This team doesn't have money to throw away. The Astros can't be worried about finances and turn around and over pay a pitcher. Your sarcasm will be funny win the Astros win a playoff series btw.
haha that's true. I don't mind Jimy, except for that fact. He seems to think his relievers can go 9+ a game for him or something. Our entire bullpen will need Tommy John surgery in the offseason.
I'd rather pay $10 million a year for a starter with that ERA then $9 million a year for a reliever. Wagner for Pettite is a improvement.
i'm not trying to be funny...and this won't guarantee a playoff series win...nothing will. you don't sign a pitcher who wins 21 games and has the career the andy pettite has had for $7 million. funny...people will b**** like hell when we don't sign a player...and then when mclane goes out and signs a proven winner, people b**** that he overpaid. classic. quagmire.
MadMax, Can you show me where I've b****ed about the Astros not signing a player. As a matter of fact I supported not resigning Billy Wagner and if you don't believe that just look at the thread. Who has their mind made up, seems like you have me labeled, wrongly btw, So quagmire these,
Did they really overpay if Colon just signed a four-year contract at $48-51 million deal. Colon has lower career numbers then Pettite does.
