It is sounding more and more like he will be coming home. I sure hope so. Look at this potential rotation Oswalt Pettitte Miller Redding Robertson/Hernandez/Duckworth (losers going to the pen) Not too bad of a lineup. Honestly, the only drawback I see for Pettitte is if he doesn't like how Jimah handles starters with kids gloves. Otherwise, I believe that he will be signed by the end of the Winter Meetings. Now, if they can find a way to bring in Vlad...
From ESPN Insider..... Dec. 10 - Reports that Houston actually has a good shot at landing Pettitte continue to circulate, and Wednesday's Houston Chronicle cited sources who said the Astros were the frontrunner to land the lefthander. If that happens, it likely will be because the Astros made more of an effort to court Pettitte. Wednesday's N.Y. Times indicates Pettitte is frustrated with the Yankees' approach to negotiations and uncertain about his future with the team. The pitcher's father even went so far as to suggest the Yankees are trying to quietly sever ties with the lefthander. "I'm grasping for straws," Tom Pettitte told the Times. We're racking our brains trying to figure out what's going on." Both the Yankees and Astros reportedly have offered Pettitte three years and $30 million, but he made $11.5 million last season -- and won 21 games -- and likely will look at the four-year, $48-51 million deal signed by Bartolo Colon with Anaheim as an indicator of the market. Though Pettitte is a year older than Colon, he is lefthanded and has better career numbers (149-78, 3.94 ERA in 276 starts to 100-62, 3.86 ERA in 211 starts). Pettitte's agents, Randy and Alan Hendricks, have said they would like to get a deal done before the conclusion of the winter meetings. Previous reports also have indicated the Braves could emerge as a bidder. -------------------------- I tried to get the NY Times article but you have to register and I'm too lazy to do that. If anybody else wants to post it please feel free to. It looks like George is dicking Pettite around. Hopefully he doesn't come to his senses and throw a big offer at him that he can't refuse.
is there new news? my buddy who the sports editor for TV Guide just sent me an freaking IM that said "Congrats on Pettitte.." and then he logged off. This is driving me nuts cause I cannot find confirmation anywhere.
I've heard on a couple of message boards that ESPN Radio is reporting that Pettitte has in fact signed with Houston, and an announcement will be made during the Winter Meetings.
Pettitte has reportedly agreed to terms with the Astros according to 610, they've agreed to terms, and Andy is taking his physical today. GREAT news.
It is being reported that Pettite has a verbal agreement with the Astros. Sounds promising. I think he is a little more reliable than David Wells was witht he D-backs.
Holy ****, i hope it's true i've gotten the feeling over the past few days it could happen. God i hope this is right.
This is sweet! I'm gonna drive by his house tonight and drop off a fruit basket or something. I live in Deer Park, a few blocks away from him.
i'm listening to Dan Patrick right now. The beat writer for the rangers said that Pettittes wife was tired of taking the kids up to the northeast and had a huge deal of influence in his decision.
I can confirm - WFAN in NY is carrying the story as well, according to a friend in NYC. AP in Houston for final physical, deal will be announced formally at the winter meetings Friday or Saturday. "There's no way Pettite comes here..." -- A-Train
You did pretty good keeping the Pettitte talk in one thread for quite a while until..................
Hey, I almost did it myself. Figured it would be easier for people to find out if it was posted in this forum. Heck yeah, we got Pettite!
