How can you trust a guy who at first says he might retire and is unmotivated to give him a 2 year contract? Clemens uses that line but isn;t stuipid enough to ask for 2 years.
It was stupid of Andy to say that in the first place (from a business perspective). At his age, he could have easilly still gotten a 3 year offer (with a 4th option year). But, as I said, don't underestimate his desire of always wanting to go back to NY. He had some good moments here... but with the injuries, playoff heartbreak, and then not even making the playoffs... it wasn't all peaches and cream.
ok, i was in Houston this past weekend and saw the attempted spin Andy's agent was doing and I call BS...$12MM is plenty for somone who robbed us the past 3 years...He didn't live up to his contract and to say "we gave the Astros a discount by wanting $14MM is ridiculous... Andy playing the "poor me" card was even more pathetic and glad he's out here, but we do need another pitcher and the sad thing is it might be at $14MM/yr to get one...The key was the "player option"...Just admit you wanted a two year deal and be done with it... Besides, being home all the time isn't what' its cracked up to be...Too many chores to do around the house and can't go to the clubs after a tough game...Here's to failing your physical Andy...
