This is the most tired argument regarding Chuck Hayes. How in the flying **** did The Rockets win all those games when Chuck Hayes started along side Yao Ming? And that was when they had McGrady and a couple of 3 point chuckers in Alston and Battier. The funny thing about all this is how someone actually mentioned "The Chicken or The Egg..." So, here is my Chicken vs Egg question: Why not start Chuck and then yank him when he becomes less effective instead of starting Luis Scola and yanking him when he becomes less effective? W-Mac wants to talk about obsession, I say, what is the obsession of Luis Scola? The guy makes a living off of getting garbage baskets when everyone else is worrying about Yao and Artest. He turns the ball over almost twice a game, and he has mastered the art of staying in the game by not playing defense so he won't pickup fouls.
Ah the old "crap on one Rockets player to try and elevate another." In case you missed it, the Rockets went on a crazy streak last year after Scola joined Yao in the starting lineup replacing Hayes. Beginning with that first game (against the Warriors where we destroyed their fronting D because of Scola knocking down shot after shot in the first quarter) the Rockets won 22 in a row. As far as that living off of garbage baskets quip: Hayes is shooting 44%. Under the basket. 38 of his 41 makes this year are under the basket. Scola shoots 58% under the basket. Scola shoots 45% from the field 15 feet out. Scola is not the defender Hayes is. But its been determined by Adelman and Morey that starting Scola gives more positive benefit than starting Hayes.
I'll be the first to admit that when Scola has 'off nights' he plays terrible. But let's give LaMarcus Aldridge a little credit in Game 2 because it didn't really matter who was guarding him, he was on fire! But to sit here and say he makes his living off of "garbage baskets" is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. You obviously don't watch many games! Ok so he has 2 TOs a game in 30+ mintues, Chuck Hayes gets 2 TOs (whether actual TOs OR throwing up some crazy layup that doesn't even hit the rim which might as well be considered a TO) in his 10 mintues of PT. As for you're comment about Hayes starting with Yao and McGrady...T-Mac set up pretty much every layup that Chuck got, so McGrady deserves most of the credit for that
As soon as Chuck messes up you guys will turn on him faster than A Fat kid can eat cake. First thread after the game will be.... "The Coach is DUMB... Why did he have hayes out there?"
So that chucks man can double team Yao without fear all night. Best idea ever. Stop their number 2 and lose our number 1 option.
I turned on him a long time ago...we have 2 better options in the post, and he's so bad of an offensive liability that he shouldn't see minutes. That being said, he's GOT to play now that Deke is out and I hope he does something productive
Yeah, the Scola fans love to put that big win streak on his resume. Forget the fact that McGrady was playing MVP level basketball and Mutombo started 9 of those games. Funny thing, The Rockets had just as much success (and better chemistry) with Chuck Hayes in the starting lineup: Rockets most effective team in the NBA 06-07: http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m0EIN/is_2007_April_23/ai_n19021694/ And all you guys who love to play the "Yao gets doubled when Chuck Hayes is on the floor" card will love this article: http://www.nba.com/rockets/news/The_Ideal_Fit-215086-34.html
I repeat Burnnotice: It's been determined by Adelman and Morey that starting Scola gives more positive benefit than starting Hayes. I don't have anything against Hayes. I fully expect to see him get lots of minutes now that Deke is down. He is a valuable part of our 4-5 rotation. Just don't try to paint Hayes in a rosy picture by bringing Scola down.
