While I agree that I don't want Cynthia Cooper as a broadcaster, this comment is going too far and sexist. Even if it was a joke. Show a little respect. She helped win 4 WNBA titles. She does not belong in the kitchen.
As much respect as I have for Clutch, I do believe Tim. I don't see what he would gain here by saying what he has said except for our opinions, which it seems to me are more than obvious looking at other posts we've made in the past. There is nothing saying that both of them are wrong is there? On another note, Tim if your reading this can you please get rid of Big Bang, fire Andrew Foreman, and get more shirts for the upper seats? Thanx Pugs
Tim, Fair enough comments, and exactly my point. The Rockets have never negotiated in the media, and I don't expect it to be happening now. Since you are the one who negotiates those contracts, I am sure you will agree that you would never even discuss them in this forum. And, furthermore, you would defend the company line on those decisions even if you did not agree with them as an individual. For instance, you have defended Cynthia Cooper as a half time analyst, yet, it is obvious to your core audience that she is far less than adequate. I would hardly think someone who is as successful in marketing as you Tim, would not have his pulse on what the majority of the fans think of Cynthia, and even if you agreed with them, you would not admit it here. I am simply pointing out to people that you will always tow the company line, and as such your views are slanted in that direction, whereas Clutch probably has a source that is NOT working for the company. Just my .02, take it with your own grain of salt. DD
But that's just the point, DaDakota. I'm not defending Cynthia as Rocket's color analyst -- I'm simply saying that she is not a candidate right now. I have defended her as a studio host many times on this board, but I believe I've done so fairly. I understand how she needs to develop -- she does, too, and it's something that Cynthia, myself, and our broadcast director discuss fairly regularly and in detail. I believe she made a lot of progress last year. I do believe she has a lot of upside. She's an extremely competitive, driven person and I believe that she's going to challenge herself to get to another level as a studio co-host this year -- and I believe she's going to win that challenge, because that's what she's been able to do her whole life. And I also know that other channels for fan feedback are much more positive about her than this board. So ... no spin there. That's what I believe. Just laying it out there. Tim
Fair enough Tim, and I do appreciate your candor. I just don't think a professional broadcast should be done by amatuers, and any maturing should not be done on a professional basketball level. You guys are supposed to put on as professional broadcast as possible, and having someone learn on the job, especially when the talent level is bare to begin with, is...well, unprofessional. DD
DaDa, Aren't all color commentators learning on the job at some point?? Have to start somewhere (not that I like Cooper or anything). At one time, Calvin Murphy was in the same position that Cynthia is in now right?
I don't know if you can answer this, but are the Rockets looking to bring in someone from the outside? I like Bullard, Newlin, and even Chancellor. There is no need to pile on Coop...my thoughts have been posted in this thread 10x
Lets give her a chance for the whole year. If it doesn't turn out then they should bring in someone else. Hey didn't the Rox or fans give Stevie many chances saying give him another year and so on to change his game?
DD, think of it this way, how many actors can really act nowaday? They still sell tickets. Sometimes, it's not just the talent that sells, but also the image and package. You mention that the "core audience" does not like Coop, but how much of that "core" makes up the whole? I tend to believe that core is 3% or even less. Message boards aren't the only outlet for feedback and people tend to post on negative things more than positives. With that said, I wouldn't like to see Coop doing the color, but it wouldn't stop me from "watching" the game. On the Robert Reid thing, I think he had problem with mar1juana or something few years back. I do believe he had cleaned himself up since, but maybe that is a blemish on his record.
OK Tim, I believe you. I just threw that "trial ballon" thought out there for some conspiracy theory fun. As you know it's a pretty common stategy in the American political system; used to test the acceptance of a controversial idea while retaining plausible deniablility. Just consider this petition preemptive strike against the terror of hiring Coop; sort of a Bush doctrine for sports fanaticism. And thanks for coming on this board and dealing with us yeahoos. The fact that we at Clutchfans can actually communicate with the management the team that we invest so much of ourselves in gives us a real sense of ownership. Now if you could just get Les to keep a daily blog and answer e-mail.
I'm afraid that I do not understand all of the caustic comments directed at Cynthia but then I never get to see her on Directv. First, it's rare to see Bill & Calvin or Matt anyway and second, Directv always switches to the NBA-TV feed at the half. She can't be this bad - I think a lot of folks here may be overreacting just a tad. FYI, the Mavericks TV broadcast team is just as bland if not more.
