The problem is the Team's Leader. Rudy? Stevie? Cat? This is Rudy's team, Steve's team (not Cat's, not) -- but their stewardship is inconsistent and substandard. I fear the best most reasonable answer is a regime change. If so, would Rudy move 'upstairs' and Larry Smith (or Jim Boylan) take over? Would a new broom sweep them all out for a Van Gundy or other? What effect would any of this have on Sino-Rocket relations? I do believe no playoffs = post season change.
a few razors might have helped them make their point a little more effectively. I bet you could have pressed license plates on those nipples, though!
You guys are hysterical, but seriously, we're gonna have to start a new petition on the baby eating thing!!!!!!!!
If I was the owner of the Rockets heres some of the reason I would move Rudy into a different position... he duped me into signing Moochie Norris for 6 years. for not running the offense through Yao Ming. for not running a motion offense. for creating a offensive system that promotes isolation, clearouts, standing around, lots of dribbling, and no passing. for being stubborn and not having the desire to change his coaching tactics, habitual substitution patterns, and lineups.
sorry cant do it. I said if I was the owner. Im a fan and I grew up with Rudy as the coach so there is some emotionl attachment there. But if I was the owner of a sports franchise, Id have to look at the business side of it. I'd see the fans losing interest in my teams style of play, the lack of progress, the selfishness, so I'd do what I had to do. but again, Im a fan and as long as Rudy is the coach, Im really, really, really, pulling for Rudy and the team to figure this thing out.
I totally understand the EMOTION of wanting the Rox to get it together!! Believe it or not, I actually WANT THE ROX TO SUCCEED!!! And if that includes Rudy, that would be GREAT!! However, I do not believe they can be successful (win another championship) with Rudy as the coach. Not this year, not next year, and not down the Road!! Rudy will ask to Yao to essentially do what Dream did and THAT IS NOT YAO'S STYLE OF PLAY!!!!!!!! If Rudy would just show me that he knows SOMETHING about offense...then I would be willing to believe he could bring the team around, but Rudy has had YEARS AND YEARS to learn something besides "dump it in and pass back out for a jumper"!!!
jeff, it may have been one person, but a lot of people agreed with him... btw, it is well within any person's rights to say that they believed rudy lied. i don't care if no one in the rocket's organization wants to come out and call a 32-year-tenured coach a liar (gee, can you say suicide??). that said, i do think rudy definitely deserves to finish out the season. we are still in the playoff race, and changing coaches right now (or at any point in the season) would almost definitely send us into a tailspin. so, let rudy tizzle finish his year out, then evaluate his position...
That doesn't prove he was right. It only proves people can make stuff up and post it on the BBS and people will believe it. Big deal. It cannot be used as a logical argument for firing the coach. There are plenty of things you CAN use, but this isn't one of them. Setting aside the personal sentiment for a moment, this statement is actually false by every imperical measure. Season ticket sales as well as single-game sales are up dramatically. In fact, attendance at games has been steadily increasing throughout the season, not the opposite. In addition, discussion of the Rockets on call-in shows is WAY up. Last year, you couldn't buy a call for the Rockets on one of those shows. This year, they dominate the conversation. Lastly, local media coverage is up dramatically as well. The number of stories and their placement, particularly on local news, has changed for the better and it has gotten increasingly better throughout the season. This all, of course, completely ignores the national media coverage from covers of magazines to national tv coverage to mentions on national programs. Yes, much of it has to do with Yao, but it certainly does not indicate a waning interest in the Rockets. In fact, just the opposite. The internet is unique. This site draws, predominantly, hard core fans of the Rockets. The people who post are the one's who want their voices heard the most. As a result, much like letters to the editor in newspapers, they tend to be the most extreme in nature. Thinking that those who drive the conversation here are representative of the majority of Rockets fans would simply be incorrect.
jeff: no matter how you twist it, the fact that they did not foul is indicative of the ignorant sytle of basketball this team has played over the past few years and that WILL be factored into the decision of whether or not to keep rudy.
I don't agree with R' Us but give me a break! That is such BS. He has his opinions and he is voicing them.
btw jeff, did you forget to consider what if he was a member of the media? i think he'd have a little more insight than the average couch potato...
I have a better idea for a petition. We should petition to trade Yao (and thus those damn Yao only lovers). That way he'll get the PT/touches he need on a team that uses him well and develop into a great player while we the Rox fans rid us once and for all the foolish notion/expectation that this team is going anywhere. So next year, whether Rudy will stay around won't make a diff.
Yes, it crossed my mind, but, since he has not stated so, I have no reason to believe he is. There is no logical reason to believe he is anything other than just some poster on the BBS like the rest of us. Absent of any proof to the contrary, why would anyone consider that fact? Anyone could be a member of the Rockets staff, a media member, or whoever. That is just understood but we don't know for certain so the most logical approach would be to proceed under the assumption RRUS is not a member of the media. Besides, any member of the media caught trying to start a petition against the coach of the team he covers would get fired on the spot. Period. I completely agree with you that Rudy will be judged based on the play of the team. HE SHOULD BE. And I am NOT defending him. As I said, you absolutely CAN make a case that he should be fired. There are plenty of reasons out there some of which you mentioned. It doesn't mean they are necessarily compelling enough right now, but a case can certainly be made based on reasonable ideas and rational judgement. However, "I think he lied to the media," is neither rational nor reasonable, so it simply cannot be figured into a decision of this magnitude. My comments about the "Rudy lying" theory have nothing to do with whether or not Rudy should be fired. That is a whole other argument for which I honestly believe there are compelling facts on both sides of the disagreement. The supposition that Rudy lied to the media is just not one of them.
Jeff: following is RRU's fourth post on page one: oh, and let's just forget about that whole jazz/rockets/rudy foulgate game. the thought of them not fouling sickens my stomach.
Just a quick update: I just sent the petition along with the first 25 names to Sports 610 via email. If anyone happens to hear anyone from Sports 610 mention anything about it, please use this thread to post it!! thanks, RRU
