So, he's a medical clairvoyant. Will Spencer play again, will Dunta play again, will Ahman Green play again, Ephirm Salaam...somebody is going to have to play LT (Will Feeny play again) Saying you know anything right now is verbal diarrhea. What do you think he was saying about N.O. about this time last year, did anybody say St. Louis would be 3-13 with Bulger, Steven Jackson and Tory Holt? About 25 teams in the NFL are 8-8 teams that go 5-11 with injuries and turnovers or 10-6 with a surprise FA and getting some turnovers. Go to Vegas and put some money on it fatman.
Not only are VY and Bush on the list, which is incredible in itself, but Reggie is actually higher up than Vince is. Man, I hate ESPN.
Ok, I don't want to be Debbie Downer. But here's what scares me for the Texans. It appears to me that their out-of-division schedule this year was a lot weaker than we anticipated it might be. It seems that portion of the schedule was going to include teams that were better than we thought. The NFC South was not good. The AFC West had a really down year. We had the good fortune of matching up against those teams. As we were headed in to the season, who anticipated the Broncos would be THIS bad? Or the Saints? Or the Falcons (who still got the better of us, still)?? We were able to squeak out a win at home against one of the worst football teams I've ever seen in the Dolphins. That freaks me out a little bit. Of course, the same thing could happen next season. And in the NFL, that's certainly not out of the question given the change in teams from year to year. But at the end of the day, had we lost yesterday I think people would be pretty blah about the Texans. And I think we won largely because the other team didn't start their key players, and we were really fortunate to have a guy become the 7th player in NFL history to return two kicks for a TD. But one thing we know for sure...you have to start winning these games against division rivals. Going 1-5 in the division won't cut it. This is the hard part. Our division is super-tough.
I have to agree with this post almost entirely, Max. I consider our division record 0-5-1* (1* = the last game against JAX can't really be considered a win against the team that's going to the playoffs).
Just go 'head and say it, The non-division teams were not who we thought they were The win vs the Jags can be considered a fluke to fans and team personnel that knows better, but it still adds more positive benefits then negative. Besides obvious morale boost for the franchise, it hopefully could have done enough to interest a top tier/2nd tier free agent who otherwise might have thought "7-9...hmm, pass".
