This may not be a representative piece. or, perhaps it is? Probably not the scouting DM the GM and his fellows (and gals???) are utizing, eh?
Morey, please don't!!! Article states that he will work out with the Rockets http://www.primerahora.com/diario/n...ston_le_pone_el_ojo_a_peter_john_ramos/324206
Invite him to camp and decide after. He is a big body which the team needs. Lets see if He can compete in the NBA. Low risk and I guess no other choice in looking for reinforcement for the front court. Give him the whole pre season to prove his worth.
Next Puerto Rican standout Carlos Arroyo talks with Rockets GM Daryl Morey. During a dinner they discussed his imminent comeback to the NBA after playing a season for the Israeli powerhouse Maccabi Tel Aviv
I really like the idea of signing Ramos. Its a low risk, high reward type of signing. He has the height we need. We just need to teach him defense now, something that the Rockets are very good at doing.
Who??? I wonder why the Rockets are starting to turn into an organization that is all about low risk high reward type of moves. Does this guy even fit that category
They don't have anything to lose, but if this guy is no good, they will be wasting a spot and will have to pay him, even if he is cheap.
He needs basic defensive footwork, and the fundamentals to block a shot for a start.I don't know if he can rebound either. If he doesn't have them,it's going to take a very long time. Highlights don't tell everything, but if he is nearly as bad as he looks in them,it could prove to be a waste of time. I'm for getting an athletic,7 foot center but not someone who seems to be so raw, that he might not be able to do anything of significance at all.
New article from the same source, states that he was going to come back to Puerto Rico Wednesday but that's been moved to Friday apparently because he had a good training yesterday with the Rockets. Per his agent, "The information that I received is that everyone was pleased with what they saw when Ramos went up against Loren Woods on Monday. I think there is a good chance that they (the Rockets) sign him and that is while he will stay until Friday". Luis Scola had this to say (there is a tournament going on in Puerto Rico, and Scola is there with his national team, in fact the whole piece is as much about how Ramos is missing the tournament as much as anything else...) "I found out a little while ago that he would be working out with the Rockets. With Yao Ming going down we have a need for big men with talent. Hopefully he (Ramos) does well in his work outs and he can make the team. I believe he is a player that can help us." http://www.primerahora.com/diario/n...ortiva/peter_john_regresara_el_viernes/324499
Don't know how to edit my own posts yet, the quote from Ramos' agent should have read like this... "The information that I received is that everyone was pleased with what they saw when Ramos went up against Loren Woods on Monday. I think there is a good chance that they (the Rockets) sign him and that is WHY he will stay until Friday". Sorry about that...
