I'd probably have to go with MK as the best VG movie as well, although, as mentioned, none of them were really THAT good. At first, I was skeptical that a Halo movie would work, but MS and Bungie seem to be working really hard to make it a quality film. Their effort doesn't necessarily mean the movie will be good, but there seems to be WAY more effort being put into this movie than other VG movies; I'm looking at you Uwe Boll. I am hopeful that VG-based movies start to get better in the near future. I keep reading that the Silent Hill movie perfectly captures the creepy atmosphere of the game, and I think that movie could turn out to be a nice hit if done right. Another positive is that other game studios seem to be taking the same approach as MS when it comes to making a movie based on their hit franchises. I remember reading that David Jaffe and SCE are being very selective with finding a director and writer for the God of War movie. The last thing I want to see is something like MGS: The Movie, directed by Uwe Boll, or something like that. Of course, there will probably still be some crappy movies as well. For example, although I don't know too much about it, I'm not too optimistic about the DOA movie.
Actually, that was one of the movies that I practically forced my parents to take me to see when it came out in theatres. Didn't quite turn out like I expected.
Halo already has three books out tho'. The story is well developed. Books are usually well thought out stories which should make script development much more agreeable. I think that could be a difference here.
This is good news. I think it shows they dont just want to turn out a money spinner that a really crappy movie.
