If I miss their call...I will call them back. Its not that I dont pick up and then I text them asking "whats up?". But, I will call them back when its good timing for me. However, with text, Im usually quick to respond regardless of who it is because its quicker and easier then having to have a conversation with someone I really dont have any interest in talking to.

I think this is far more annoying
"QUITE BLOWING UP MY D*MN PHONE . . . THERE IS A REASON I DID NOT ANSWER AND RESPOND WITHIN 15 seconds!!"

One more thing - I am guilty of this . . .. so I wonder if people are peeved by it.

If someone calls. . . Esp if I 'just missed the call' . . . I will call back without listening to the message 1st.

"I am returning your call" - RR
"You get the message" - Person
"No, I saw you called and called back" - RR

I sometimes wonder if that pisses people off.

There is nothing wrong with being anti social. Some people are anti social, some people are social. You'll probably text a combination of both at some point in your life. Anti social is cool, actually.

There was a time when I refused to get an answering machine, because I didn't like the idea of someone thinking they tossed the ball into my court requiring me call them back.

so much has changed; so much has remained the same.

    here's an awkward one.

I received a text from someone I know from another message board.

he gave me the jilted gf "are you mad at me?" text

my response "lol wut" set off a whole series of "you didn't PM/text/call me back"

    ...

Don't you hate it when you're sexting and your partner runs out of texting credit and stops right at the climax?

I don't like the telephone, so quite often I won't text back or pick up calls unless it's for work. I leave it on vibrate and respond to calls/messages when I have some free time. If someone has called me multiple times, I'll call back. If someone texts to say it's an emergency/important, I'll respond obviously. If someone calls once and only later says that it was important and that I should have picked up, I say "you should have texted that."

I understand that this can, on rare occassions, be genuinely irritating. But I don't buy that this is irritating to people 100% of the time. Also, my close friends and family know that I do this, so they will send me texts with context if it's important.

My pet peeve is people who take this too seriously. I feel they're too hooked on their phones. What pisses me off more is if they do a little investigation. "I saw that you were tweeting, why didn't you pick up your phone??"

Texting/calling is so prominent here that if I were to respond to every call and text, I wouldn't have time to do anything else but sit in a coffee shop with my hands free.

Only if its a question or something important then ill respond. Also like most people said texting is easier because it makes things less awkward and tense when your in those big conversations.
You have time to think about what you want to say and comfortably.
