I tested positive June 29th so I most likely was infected The weekend of the 26th. I had a lot of exposure. Most likely it was either at a grad party, or at a concert that night. I haven’t heard of anyone else though from that party getting infected or the friends I went tot he concert with. It’s possible I just got at the grocery store.
Sorry to hear that. I’ve not lost my sense of taste or smell. I only had about two days where I felt really bad and then it was like having the flu.
The biggest issue for me is that I was supposed to get my pre op physical tomorrow for my torn rotator cuff with surgery next Tuesday. All of that has been delayed now indefinitely. I was already very busy with work prior to this and managed to work while sick but for three days last week I could only manage working a few hours each day. That’s really set me back. I have a client with a project deadline next week and the PM on it is pressing me to meet in person but I’m not going to do so until I can test negative
it's a blessing from the gods: don't have the surgery. for my SLAP tear, I rehabbed w/ CrossoverSymetry on my own, and I'm 99% better. Surgery would have a lower result. https://crossoversymmetry.com
Infections are picking up in the neighboring counties. I'm triple vaxxed and generally healthy, but it still doesn't sound pleasant. Especially because I go stir crazy even on days when I'm allowed to leave to my apartment.
I'm not sure about that. I've seen the MRI and there is very little rotator cuff left. I've already heard from three doctors that rehab might not do that much.
Should we be ultra-paranoid about grocery shopping and eating out without masks again? This BA.4 and BA.5...it doesn't sound like there is any protection against infection from the vaccines or from having got Covid previously. There appears to be some protection against severe illness still, however. The gist I get is these are the most contagious strains yet, not as deadly, and not as many people being hospitalized. But, if infection rates go up, then so do deaths and hospitalizations but how bad? Does that mean we treat it like the Flu and go about our business? Or, are the infection rates going to explode, hospitalizations skyrocket, and we go back into lockdown? I'd say it's a bit concerning but it seems doubtful people go back to masking up because everyone is fed up with masking from what I see.
I think at this point we treat it like the flu, provided you get your shots. It definitely seems like if you're vaccinated and / or have previous exposure it is like getting the flu. That still means that you should be keeping up with boosters to deal with new variants as they arise. Even though I already got it I'm still going to get a booster in a couple of months. For people at high risk probably still need to be careful.
I'd say there's a decent chance we get not only a more infectious variant in the future but one that is more deadly. If that happens, then we know there will be a delay in getting a booster out for it of probably 9 - 12 months at least (or, 6 - 9 if really lucky). I'd say the country can't afford to go into another lockdown, however. I dunno. F*ck!
Speak of the devil...both my parents got it. My Dad is high risk but 3x vaxxed and just seems kind of...dazed? My sister works in a NICU so I guess she'll have to stay somewhere else while they quarantine. I am shocked I havent gotten it yet. Im kinda hoping I have some secret cure in my blood or something.
Crap... I tested negative yesterday on a rapid test but my PCR test still came back positive. I'm going to continue to isolate for the weekend and then take another rapid test on Monday. If that says negative I'm going to presume that I'm over it.
I've been hearing from some people that even when they are asymptomatic they are still testing positive for a long time after. Some have been saying that after you are asymptomatic it's no longer worth it to keep on testing. I'm weighing whether I should do that next week.
my understanding is that PCR and rapid tests test different things. The former can continue to show positive results for weeks, maybe months, after an infection. The rapid test is looking for active virus, so if it's negative, you should be ok now. Spoiler CF Disclaimer: the above does not constitute medical advice.
