So what strings are attached? Some people are just looking at the money and thinking, why would we not take it with out know what strings are attached? Is this the type of thing that would increase our taxes, payroll taxes, maybe cause a state income tax? I have no idea, that is why I am asking.
The article mentions how these unemployment benefits would require Texas extending them to cover part-time workers as well. There are a number of second order effects of doing that.
Funny how the typical nah sayers never mentioned how Biden basically threatened the states when to take the funds or they would not be friends of the administration. I for one am glad we are standing our ground, Texas gives more money to the federal government then most states so why not just reduce the amount we send in instead of forcing us to take back laundered funds that were ours to begin with minus the fed processing fees.
By my count, you have numbers 1, 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, 10, and 11 all covered in just 6 sentences. Good job.
hey maybe you can go to waco and secede from the union. that'll show them feds! also on sam's point about the deficit the texas workforce commission has. im really disgusted. off the kuff has some more info.
That's a weird way of standing our ground. "You take too much of our money! So we're going to keep sending you that money, but we won't accept the new money you're offering to send us back! So there!!"
Perry doing some political grandstanding during an election year, no way! I'd rather pay a little more payroll taxes now in 2009, our 2nd year of a recession, to help out my neighbors who are unemployed before they're homeless. Soon their kids won't be at school and their home will be another foreclosure in the neighborhood. If Perry was really worried about our tax burden he'd lower property taxes in Texas during these difficult times. He's already receiving billions form the federal government for highway and pet projects from the stimulus package...
There should be major strings attached to all this money being thrown around. How do you think we got into this problem to begin with? I guess if no strings attched, these republicans could possibly do magic tricks with our money and make it disappear into the pockets of the affluent.
the most hilarious point in the cartoon is jindal criticizing the federal gov when it was bush and a repbulican congress in control. I can't believe more people haven't caught that
This is basically Perry trying to enhance his popurlarity in the Republican party. The fact that unlike other states Texas governors don't really have as much power as other governers. If the state senate overturn this the state will have to to take the money but I doubt it because our states Congress are Consertives.
borderline treason by perry. It's like that time when pippen refused to go in the game because the play was for kukoc. He should be removed and relocated to alaska.
its referring to part timers who got laid off. 30 states did not previously give them unemployment. given that the average work week in the country today is around 33 hours, its obviously dumb to not give part timers unemployment. perry refusing aid that would require AND FUND unemployment for part timers is downright treason and makes no economic sense. unemployment checks are SPENT because they are meager and needed to support people. whereas tax cuts are put in banks, which doesn't help in the short term one bit. to argue against any unemployment is not only morally repugnant but financially stupid.
