basso's just following the script folks.

Greg Sargent makes a great point --

Tom DeLay Accuses Pelosi And Reid Of Getting "Very Close To Treason"

I'm highlighting this for a reason. Has anybody else noticed that every day brings palpably more wild-eyed and unhinged attacks from the folks who either are in favor of the war or the folks who are for some reason instinctually opposed to the Dems' aggressive antiwar stance?

You can see the attacks growing significantly more deranged by the day -- and sometimes by the hour. Yesterday White House flack Dana Perino suggested that anyone who's in favor of withdrawal is a person of bad character. David Broder (not pro-war, but anti-anti-war, if you get my meaning) invented facts outright in order to argue that Reid is an "embarrassment," despite his respectable approval rating. Today brings Bush, who indulged in some of his most demented rhetoric yet to argue that the public's on his side on Iraq, and Cheney, who sputtered and snarled unintelligibly for a few minutes this afternoon before skulking off. And now DeLay's "treason" charge.

What's interesting here, I think, is the discernible tone of incredulity on the part of all the attackers, as if they're mystified by the fact that the Dems just won't back off on Iraq. Dems aren't supposed to be behaving this way. It upsets the natural order of things. When the Dean of Washington journalism says you're an embarrassment who's bungling the Dems' case, you're supposed to quickly run for cover and let more hawkish Dems make the case for the party. But here Reid is again, repeating the things he said yesterday, even turning up the rhetoric a notch. Look, public opinion is complex and mutable, and Dems have many tough choices ahead that they may botch. But judging by the mounting hysteria of their opponents, it looks like their aggressiveness is working.

Does that make me and the rest of the people who voted for Democrats traitors also?
Watch out, or else the republicans are going to try and start impeachment proceedings against Pelosi and Reid. Like Vermont...oh wait.

basso thanks for posting this. The mainstream media have managed to keep a pretty tight lid on any positive reports from the war.

^ That is a common misconception. There is actually plenty of good news that gets reported about Iraq by the mainstream media. The bad news is bloodier so it gets noticed more. Its like why do local nightly news like to report on car crashes and murders? If it bleeds it leads.

I love it how Basso can post something completely ridiculous time after time again, and everyone takes it so seriously and starts this long going thread.

    Man - it's impressive.

Basso, might be "completely ridiculous", but he is just parroting the conservative GOP/National Review/American Enterprise/bush Cheney line.

It has to be taken seriously. After all they took over the government, won two elections and started the Iraqi quagmire-- or is it a debacle.? You know the crime that killed approximately 650,000 folks.

Exactly. There is at most half of this nation who believes in the garbage spin "conservative" outlets spew out. I would not take this stuff lightly after the 2004 debacle.

    DAILY EXPRESS
    News Real
    by Lawrence F. Kaplan

At what point does the press report a trend? The question comes to mind because, over the past month, the news from Iraq has been unusually good. Depending on which military official you ask, insurgent attacks have dropped by either a third or nearly half. The number of Americans killed in action has declined. Civilians have begun killing terrorists. Over the past week alone, U.S. forces have killed scores of insurgents in lopsided battles--in the latest, Iraqi forces spearheaded the offensive. Does this mean America has turned a corner? Can we see a light at the end of the tunnel? Does it mean anything at all?...

"Perhaps" Osama is really dead and we don't realize it.

"Perhaps" it really doesn't matter who we elect - we just don't realize it.

"Perhaps" everything will be ok and there's never anything to worry about.

"Perhaps" all problems will magically solved themselves.

Frustration at 650,000 dead. One of the worst crimes of the last 50 years. Just to blow off steam. Who knows.
