Than show us the cracks.... especially with his "work ethic". I find that to be a ridiculous statement. Go ask Jason Friedman how hard this guy works, and he will let you know his thoughts. He certainly wasn't a lock-down defender, and did seem to get mixed up sometimes on rotations (common rookie & 2nd year error). However, if you go back and watch his one-on-one defense, it was much better than advertised. I watched the last Golden State game the other night & particularly paid attention to D-Mo's defense against David Lee who is one of the best offensive post players in the league. Although D-Mo mightily struggled to find his shot that game, he really impressed me with his one-on-one post defense that really looked to be mostly derived from his effort to really get up in face of David Lee & take some bumps in the post. The one thing that really seemed to be consistent with his defense was his effort. The lower body strength and knowledge of NBA defensive rotations should improve as it does with most players after a few years in the league. -On offense, I see a ton of skill, but he needs to slow down and stop forcing it. Mentally he lost some confidence in his shot the last few games he started, and it showed. He's got to find confidence and a rhythm to his 3 point shot. He also needs to work on getting lift from his lower body when he shoots. His form looks great, but was often flat or had a tendency to let his pivot foot come too far in and throw off his balance. These offensive issues are very fixable. D-Mo will be at the very least, serviceable next year.... could be very good. The great news is.... Terrence Jones could be even better than D-Mo.
Just some rumors I've heard over the summer. I think there's at least one other poster that has either heard the same thing or has the same contact I have. I remember a post a couple months back that kinda dinged the bell of what I've heard also. Don't want to really go into this though. Believe what you will.
Damn. Apparently he had plenty of training camp offers as well. Anyways, good for him getting payed in Turkey, much better fit. It would have been a tough NBA career for Cooley, NBA is not too kind to undersized, not as athletic white big men.
