Seattle already has a player like Wagner in Flip Murray. Problem with Dajuan is that even though he has the mentality of a Steve Francis or Allen Iverson, he lacks the quickness and athleticism.
Well, if Wagner would fit better in CLE than HOU or SEA, here's another scenario. SEA receives full TE from HOU, sends Booth to CLE, Daniels to HOU CLE sends McInnis to SEA, Diop to HOU ----------------- But, in this scenario, I'd also do a trade with CHI: CHI receives Howard/Spoon HOU receives Chandler/Duhon/Williams We both get better fitting forwards. Last summer, they tried hard to get Howard, so we know they like him. That would allow them to keep Davis at center, and allow Curry to come along slower. They seem to have given up on Chandler, and Howard would be a good veteran starter to go along with Davis and all the young guys. Swapping Williams for Spoon would both be bad contracts, but each would fit better on the other team. Duhon is a 2nd round throw-in. We'd end up with more depth, youth, and muscle in the paint: Yao/Diop/(Chandler) Taylor/Williams/Padgett JJ/Chandler/Boki/A.Griffin TMac/Pike/Gaines Daniels/Lue/Duhon
Williams would bring us some defense, no question about that. According to Patricia Bender, he signed a 7 year, $40.8M contract in '01 that has a p/t option in '07. That's one year longer than Spoon, but he's an upgrade. Here's what Bulls.com said about him when they got him from the Raptors on 12/1/03: Williams, a 6-9, 230-pound forward, has appeared in 15 games this season, including 12 starts, and is averaging 5.1 ppg, 8.5 rpg and 1.27 spg, while shooting .491 from the field. Nicknamed “Junkyard Dog,” Williams’ average of 11.0 defensive rebounds per 48 minutes ranks him seventh in the NBA for that category. For his career, Williams has averaged 6.9 ppg, 6.8 rpg and 1.08 spg, while making .506 of his shots from the field. In his eighth year, Williams was originally drafted by Detroit in the first round (26th overall) of the 1996 NBA Draft out of Georgetown. http://www.nba.com/bulls/news/davis_trade_031201.html He'd be a nice pickup. Like some of your ideas, Sherlock. The Chicago trade would give us some different looks, with Chandler being great to have if he can stay healthy. JVG could do a lot with his defense, I think. Duhon would be an upgrade over Wilks, and might pan out long-term. I'd really prefer to keep Howard over Taylor, but maybe we'll get lucky and this will be Taylor's year. I think his contract is a year shorter than Howard's, although it's bigger. Of course, Chicago really would have to be willing to "give up" on Chandler and still be hot for Howard, but hey... it's speculation. I enjoy reading good trade ideas.
I don't want to take any contracts beyond 2 years anymore. There are always cheaper alternatives. Keon Clark is an FA. Diop, Mihm, Jerome James, and Vitaly Potapenko are all available through trade. Unless it's a solid piece, I wouldn't take a contract beyond 2 years.
