or tyrone gets shot and it gets shown all over the news but bubba gets shot and it gets no news. can anyone say they last time they saw a publicized video of a white person getting beat up by police? i can't....if it doesn't sell then they won't show it. rich white girls getting killed sells and poor colored people getting beat up by cops sells.

    you ever watch COPS :p

    I understand
What you saying. . in fact I think that maybe a different issue

Before Rodney King - black folx complained that cops beat them
most of american thought it was an exaggeration
Black folx said american didn't care if it happened or not
the trail where the cops got off PROVE IT as far as black people were concerned

I think we are uncomfortable to an extent that our protectors
could be so corrupt either way
[white folx or black folx getting beaten]

I think what you are talking is a institutionalized form of bias or racism
We get a filtered view of the world through these 'news' orgs
    all of them

they say . . no one cares if white folx get beaten
no one cares is a minority girl is kidnapped
    AND THEY ARE WRONG!

i guess the only problem i have with your scenarios is they are very anecdotal. i mean i've only been offered a warning by a cop one time and i've received like 5 speeding tickets in my life. i grew up in a white neighborhood and i acted friendly and cordial everytime too. they could give a crap if i was white. which reminds me i really need to get my registration done.

I think "racist" is the wrong word...the one you're looking for might be "prejudiced".

I think the majority of people are prejudiced, and we all make some decisions in life based on these prejudices, mostly subconsciously.

Racism implies some sort of hatred/dislike of another based entirely on their ethnic/racial/cultural background. If you're dismayed by the fact that some rich Black guy is shopping at your heavily-White neighborhood market, you're racist. If you make policies that intentionally target specific groups of people based entirely on their ethnic background, you're a racist; etc...

With that being said, I voted for the 10-25% option as the percentage of those truly racist. I would think it's a higher percentage than that, but it's difficult to know either way.

Also, it varies from region to region, even within a single country; take the U.S. for an example.

i love to watch cops and generally the cops are pretty fair. they've got a freaking hard job to do and i don't know how they stay so fair for the most part. but its not like they are going to show the beatings on there. i've also talked to cops who say its hard not to become racist or stereotypical of the neighborhoods where they work since they are usually around the bad people of that society.

that being stated there is also another thing that needs to be looked at because these cops are putting their lives on the line and they need to be able to judge and guage people and situations to protect themselves. at the same time they can't go overboard with their judgements either. like if someone looks like a crackhead or meth freak then they can't just ignore how the person looks and not assume that the guy is a druggie or alcoholic. i dunno just throwing that out there too.

also, i guess it depends how you look at things too. whether you want to concentrate on the negative or positive things. when you ignore all the great deeds that cops do and then just concentrate on the actions of a corupt few to judge the whole group of cops. or only remembering the mistakes the cops make when they are in such high pressure situations and forgetting the excellent decisions they make. sounds pretty stereotypical and "racist" to me as i was writing that out.

anyhow....that sort of negativity creates distrust and hurts relations with the cops. for some reason it reminds me of a dysfunctional marriage or relationship where the concentration on the negative aspect of things almost becomes a self-fulfilling event and ultimately causes the breakdown of the relationship.

also in this poll is it implied that the racist people includes all races and not just white people? generally when racism is talked about it is only white people being racist and no other ethnicities.

    Bill Hicks:

"While I was in England, I got to see footage of the Rodney King trial that I was never able to see over here. I think I figured out why the LA riots occurred. Did you guys see these cops testifying? Did these guys have balls or what?
...This guy, Officer Coon ... is life too f****** weird or what? Officer Coon actually looks into the camera and says: 'Yeah, that Rodney King beating tape, it's all in how you look at it.' The courtroom murmurs: "Jesus, what balls." ... 'Really? How would you look at it, Officer Coon?' 'Well, if you play it backwards, you see us pick King up and helping him on his way.' Mmm ... not guilty."
    (Hicks as fake news reporter):
"Today, Officer Coon, Officer N*****-Hater and Officer Keep-Darkie-Down were acquitted on all racist charges. Here's Tom with the Weather...."

"Hi Suzy, it's 420 degrees farenheit here in South Central L.A. right now. Probably a good time to get out of the ******* city, Suzy. There's gusts of lead coming up Sunset."
