I don't know if saying this still equates to being un-hip or not, but I feel like the boy crying the Emperor is naked about Whoopie Goldberg. I have never understood her career...at all. She occassionally incites a mild chuckle, but so do a few of my friends and neighbours, and many more so. Does anyone else here 'get' her? Unfunny IMO, and aside from that what do you have with her? Is she a great driver? Can she bake? Does she hit the jumper with a hand in her face? WHat? I just don't get it...and now she's got another show revolving around her. Why does she seem to have the shelf life of nuclear waste? At least other people they keep unsuccessfully trying to build shows around, like that guy from Boston Common, or Ned from Ned and Stacy are funny or watchable. Whoopie saying " _____, Honey!" or "Damn, sugar, you'd better _________" just passes me by...
You underestimate the power of Whoopi? Center square, Man! But seriously, she is absolute dreck. A conflusion of markets like $ hit is a conflusion of foodstuf. A puree of the worst from every culture, sausaged for you. But maybe she means well. My daughter likes her with elmo. Aack.

Blasphemy!! Bill Walton is a genius... Star Jones shouldn't be on TV for the simple fact that she'll turn Disney bankrupt on food costs alone...
As a side note on Whoopi, when I used to work for an investment bank, one of the big transactions I worked on was the sale of Bestfoods Baking to George Weston Limited. Bestfoods Baking was the manufacturer of "premium sweet baked goods" such as Entenmann's, Arnold's bread, Thomas' English Muffins (and bagels) and a few other brands (Boboli, Oroweat, Freihofer's). When we went to work on selling the company, Whoopi had just been hired to be the spokeswoman for Entenmann's. She received $1,000,000 for the job. The job consisted of showing up for about 3 hours, shooting 3-4 commercials, and then going home. Well, Whoopi shows up intoxicated, couldn't go more than 30 seconds without cursing, and shot the most pathetic commercials of all time. The company was livid. Despite her irresponsibility, they still managed to use those commercials. I never understood her popularity either, other than simply representing the emotional black woman. Oh well.
White actresses never drink, curse or shoot pathetic commercials? In terms of her popularity, her new show debuted in the top 10. Not bad for an emotional black woman, huh.
Whoopi Goldberg has played major characters in some of the most successful movies in the past 20 years. The Color Purple Sister Act Ghost (she won an Oscar for best supporting actress) Girl Interrupted along with numerous other films and awards including a Grammy and two Golden Globes. If you think Whoopi doesn't have talent, it is your knowledge of the entertainment industry that should be questioned.
I agree...she has had a couple of bad movies (every actor does), but over all she is well liked.......
