With the waiving of Penny Hardaway, anyone else think the Rockets should jump on the oppertunity? He is a terrific passer who can knock down jumpshots and always makes the smart decisions. He could play backup PG and allow Francis, T-Mac and James to be SG's/SF's, where they belong.

I remember watching him play when I first started watching basketball.

Explain why the Rockets shouldn't sign a terrific passer, good shooter, good defender and a playmaker with a HIGH bball IQ (something they currently lack)?

We have enough shooters, they are just not playing well. What we have alcked for 2 yeas is another playmaker to T-mac/Rafer. As you saw against the Raptors and Sixers, the offense died without Rafer. I am not saying give Penny major minutes, but he has high bball IQ, is a great passer, solid jumpshooter and good defender.

Yes the Rockets need someone like that, but Penny isn't that player.
Why do you think the Heats wave him? Use some common sense.

Because he couldn't make the cut in Miami's deep roster. :D

Look at his stats before Wade came back to dominate the ball....the guy can still ball. At this point, the Rockets have NO smart playmakers outside of Rafer and T-Mac (who should not have that burden)...Penny gives you solid shooting, solid defense, great passing and I think could be good off the bench for this team.

I think we got enough guards/wings for this team to handle. I like penny but he's washed up. we've seen enough washed up guys who WERE "great passers/shooters"

derek anderson, all the superstar whiteboys, david wesley, jim jackson, lol rick brunson, and theres plenty of others too.

come on...penny's time has come and gone.

Yes, his time has come and gone, but he is still productive. He can run the offense better than any backup PG we hav. As we saw when rafer was out, this team falls apart with Francis, James or Head at PG.

For a guy who we could pick up at a dirt cheap price, I see no risk.

Lol, first we have YOFs, then TOFs, and now even a POF?! I just love the GARM these days :D

Dude's been washed up since the turn of the millenium. Heck, he's been washed up ever since the microfracture surgery. There's a reason why he can't even make a Heat team that rivals us for awfulness this year. Dwyane Wade is but one guy. If he can contribute like you said he can, he should still be on that team. But reality check, guess he can't.

Look no further to 82games stats for proof.

He was released by the HEATS, which would shed a happy tear if they have rafer as their starting point guard... So, say no to penny.

Really? No risk? Why not go for Mark Jackson then? Or Nick Van Exel?

Heck, let's solve our shooting woes by picking up Matt Bullard off the announce booth too!

Penny was putting up solid numbers when he was ina reserve role...5PPG/3RPG/2APG/1SPG, shooting 53% from the field, 75% from 3 and 89% from the line through those 8 games. For comparison, Francis is averaging 5/3/2 on very poor shooting from all areas of the floor, and James has not been much better (scored in double digits only 3x since 11/17...all in losses because he got scrub minutes).

But, it goes beyond stats and productivity....right now, Rafer is our only playmaking PG. Without him the offense completely died. While Penny is old, he is still a very good passer who can get us into our sets and make the smart plays for the 10-15 MPG Rafer is on the bench.
