I'm really thinking you should fall back man. Paterno may be a figureheard with regard to the actual gameplan on Saturdays but with regards to what's gone on in the school as it pertains to his program, I doubt many would call him a figurehead. Being an old man doesn't preclude one from being clear minded or a decisive leader.
He's clear minded enough to decide to stay on till the end of the season and notch up some more wins for the history books instead of stepping down now.

Let's not forget that the GA was hired by Joe Pa as a full time coach, it makes one wonder whether or not there was a bit of "SHHHHH...and we will get you a good gig" was involved.

    A little hush money....

This is just ugly, and Joe Pa needs to be fired, today.

I suppose it comes with the territory of being such a public figure, but I think my biggest issue is that to the casual observer that just sees the headlines and hears 30 second news reads of it, this case is going to be all about Paterno. Most of that heat should be directed at Sandusky, and then McQueary (the GA) and Curley.

Money is louder than you think. They won't have a problem getting a new coach. I think Penn State will be Penn State again within a decade.

Penn State cannot afford to let Paterno anywhere near the football field for the rest of the season. Not the press box. Not the parking lot. Not even the same zip code. Surely the PSU board knows this, right?

The PSU players are going to be taunted pretty badly during the last 2 games of the season (both away games), as well as during the eventual bowl game. Maybe PSU should just pack it in early after the Nebraska game this weekend and forfeit the rest of their schedule.

I really hope not. It's not the players' fault their coaches were being criminally unscrupulous d-bags.

You can't keep backpedaling into different excuses. First you think he's not guilty, then he's just a figurehead without any power, then it's age clouding his judgment.

Not fair to the players and fans. Clear house of all individuals who were involved in the scandal, finish the season, and go from there.

He isn't guilty. He wasn't charged. He didn't even get a chance to speak before everyone piled on him. I've mentioned his age several times. I never said he ruled PSU like everyone else seems to think. He hits someone while driving on campus and y'all want to put him in a home like he's a baby, now y'all want to declare him some kind all-knowing superpower.

It's absolute not their fault. But you just know that the d-bags will be out in full force during PSU's trips to Ohio State and Wisconsin (as well as whatever bowl they play in), and the players will bear the full brunt of the taunts. Don't kid yourself if you think a bunch of immature (and potentially liquored-up) 18-21 year olds are going to pass up an opportunity to stick it to a conference rival in their home stadium.

Of course it's not fair. The amount of vitriol aimed the PSU players' way is going to jump 1000x for the rest of the season. Do you want your kids playing in that kind of environment? These aren't professionals, who are paid to ignore heckling and booing.

Having said that, though, I know my response was a bit extreme. Just saying the university may want to think about it, not that it should or would happen.

Actually he is guilty, per his own words to the grand jury. He knew of a grown man playing around with a naked kid in a shower, at his facility. And he still allowed that grown man around his program and kids. There is nothing ok about that. I don't care if it's your best friend, father, son, boss, whomever. What the hell are you smoking dude??

That may not be enough to get you sent to prison, which is unfortunate considering other kids were probably molested in that timeframe, but it surely should be enough to get you canned when other coaches are getting canned for not stopping dudes from selling jerseys. If your mind is sharp enough to walk up and down a sideline and do press conferences after games then its sharp enough to follow up on rumors of lil kids getting bent over in your teams shower.

If PSU does what I think they should do (i.e. completely clear house including JoePa), then I don't think it'll be as bad as you think it'll be. With that said, heckling and booing isn't exactly the worst thing in the world.

I can't imagine PSU's program recovering from this.

Did anyone else kind of throw up upon hearing this news at first?

So sickening and the fact that no one said anything to the authorities makes me want to gag.

To a much lesser extent I feel bad for PSU students and alumni. Don't know if I could bring myself to support my school any time soon. Of course, I also wonder if this same sort of cover up wouldn't happen at a lot of major universities...

Remember the Baylor basketball incident, where one player murdered another, and the coach tried to cover up his NCAA violations by painting the murdered player as a drug dealer?

Baylor basketball has never been better, less than a decade later.

Anything the NCAA can do? I didn't involve money or drugs so they probably won't care, right?
