I have a feeling we're being used as leverage. I'm hopeful something could change. But Alexander has to be interested in buying for this to really work....or people need to get really creative.

NHL's Penguins Eye Texas Move HOUSTON, United States (AFP) - Ice hockey's Pittsburgh Penguins will visit the city here this week as they consider a move from their current home, the Houston Chronicle reported. Mario Lemieux, owner and retired star of the National Hockey League club, is expected to lead a delegation from Pittsburgh, the team's home since its 1967 debut, an unnamed source told the newspaper. The Penguins' stadium lease expires after this season and a new arena project fell through. Lemieux has already been to Kansas City to explore relocation options there. Tad Brown, chief executive of basketball's Houston Rockets, would have to share his club's home arena, the Toyota Center, with the Penguins if they made a move here. "We look forward to seeing them if they're here," Brown told the Chronicle. "We'll show them how great a city Houston is and how great Toyota Center is." Lemieux is already in Texas as the NHL All-Star Game is set for Wednesday in Dallas. Leslie Alexander, owner of the NBA Rockets, has said he would like to own an NHL club. The Penguins, 21-17 with eight overtime losses for 50 points, share the eighth and final playoff position in the Eastern Conference with Toronto and the New York Rangers at the all-star break. Pittsburgh is considered a team on the rise with young stars Sidney Crosby of Canada and Evgeni Malkin of Russia. NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly has said a decision could come next month on the Penguins' fate and that the league would not stand in the way of a relocation if the team does not have a new arena deal in Pittsburgh. The Penguins had struck a deal for a new arena with an applicant for a casino license, but Pennsylvania state officials last month selected another bidder for the license, effectively killing the arena plan as well. City and state officials have met with Lemieux, who told the Tribune-Review newspaper that talks have bogged down with those hoping to keep the club in Pittsburgh. "I heard it wasn't very good. Our people were offended and very disappointed," Lemieux told the Tribune-Review. "Now, as always, we have to go out and explore our options. Once we find a deal we like, we'll sign it up."
I'd love to have the Penguins here, NHL hockey is exciting as hell, especially in the playoffs. Plus 2 absolute young superstars like Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin (sp?) I'd go to Toyota Center to see them.
IMHO I don't think we deserve a hockey team over other cities. They are better off moving to Winnipeg or a place where people actually CARED. Houston never has cared for hockey, they should go to a place where people genuinely love it already.
It's not looking good in Pitt. http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/news/story?id=2740053&POLL274=200000000000000000000
