This is why I always disagreed with the whole "Don't want to impeach Trump because Pence would be worse." Pence would be better because he wouldn't antagonize liberals just for the fun of it and as you say, he wouldn't be chummy to our enemies and hostile towards our allies. Trump is just about as far right as Pence, the only difference is that Pence would be more presidential. For people that think his hate for LGBTQ people is going to change much, it's not, being against LGBTQ rights is a good way to sink your ship. He's going to put up far right judges but Trump does that already. He's going to be fiscally conservative...Trump does that...going to be socially conservative... Really the only difference between Pence and Trump is how they behave. I disagree with Pence on 99% things I'm sure but at the very least I believe he'd be presidential.
In general, I don't think Pence is a good candidate. He wouldn't make it through a primary process. And he doesn't have the strongman appeal that Trump does. But, if he ended up running with the incumbency advantage of being president, and riding Republican fear that the Democrats are going to capitalize on Trump's downfall, yeah he can totally win. But I'm not convinced that Trump won't make it to the end. My confidence in this country wanting to do the right thing is basically zero at this point.
So as of yesterday, Pence was supporting investigating possible corruption with former Vice Presidents. He should be a little more careful about his wishes -- don't you think?
