ahhh, so the syrians are really our friends, despite their well-documented support for both al queda and hezbollah, and quite possibly serving as the hiding place for iraqi WMD (according to the former commander of one of the marine divisions in iraq, w/ whom i spoke, there were long truck convoys headed into syria in the week prior to the invasion).
basso the Bush Administration apparently disagrees with you as they are now willing to work with them in a momentous shift. Are you saying you disagree with this policy shift? Your anectdotal Syrian Truck Convoy story is VERY credible, however. I heard that Hitler's gold, the Ark of the Covenant, and Jimmy Hoffa's body was also seen on the road to Damascus - from a VERY highly placed source.
No they are our enemies. Just enemies that do things like this. So would you rather alienate them, and give them more of an excuse to look the other way when they get the information tha could foil plots like that? There are more than two options. Rather than painting it like we either love them and will let them do whatever they want, and they are our best buddies, or they can't be talked to at all, there is a middle ground. We keep our eye on them, and work both of our nation's mutual benefit. We get them to help us out of our mess in Iraq, and give us intel on terrorist plots etc. Doing it your way results in death and destruction at a U.S. embassy in Damascus. Doing it the other way stops those kinds of things, and could possibly help stabilize Iraq.
