couldn't they... you know... and i'm just spitballin' here, but couldn't they just flip peavy for prospects?....... valverde was dealt a year ago; he didn't land anything but, more or less, roster fodder. he's not, imo, a viable trade chip. it's starts with pence; you then have to find two high-quality arms.
could be...maybe i'm overrating valverde's value on the trade market. it's just the best we have to trade without trading someone named lance or roy, i think. and i'm hopeful you could get more or valverde now then you could have last season....simply because, oops he did it again.
lol thats not gonna happen, Sabathia will break the bank, prolly $ 80 - 100 mil. I'd hate to give up Pence, I have more faith in him than others. But then again, the best case scenario of him is he turns out to be a Vlad. But when you think about it, thats still equal value for Peavy, he's that good. And giving up Valverde would not be the end of the world. This is a good year for relief pitching free agents.
There's always Carlos Lee... Just saying, you could get yourself some young talent for sure for the dude. Hey, pitching over batting right??
Well, we already knew that the Astros by themselves have not much to offer.... that's why they need to get a third team involved, which requires a little bit more innovation, work, and effort by OUR GM. If we go to them and say... the Mets have already agreed to give you x and y prospects when we give them Valverde, and the Reds will fork over p and q prospect/everyday player when we give them Wiggington/Wandy... you gotta think Kevin Towers' ears will perk up.
of course the mets would have to want wigginton and wandy i can't see us getting this done without pence being involved. i'd be giddy if it did, though.
I'm assuming Pence goes to the Padres straight up.... and I used the Reds (not the Mets) as a possible trading partner for the W's (not that they have much value either). Basically, you have to sell it to another team... I tend to undervalue Wandy/Wigginton, while I overvalue Valverde. Teams will overpay when they shouldn't, and laugh in our faces when they should.
True...a lot of times I can't believe what a player fetches on the market...or what he won't fetch...because i just ascribe different value, obviously.
I'm confused, are you saying that the Pads would want Pence for Peavy straight up, or did I misread or miss something along the line? I'm not being a smart-ass either, just asking if that what you meant.
he meant Pence will go to the Pads "straight up" (as in he goes there without an intermediate team), while Valverde or Wigginton or Wandy or whoever would go to a 3rd party team, who would send prospects to the Pads. (all a part of the same deal...Pence would be a part of the deal, and the other pieces would be a part..neither would exist on its own)
Cards' GM says they're unlikely to deal for Peavy.. 1 down http://www.stltoday.com/stltoday/sp...0E346CA346B8D2C7862574EB00150ADD?OpenDocument
Looks like the Braves won't be in the running either. Hmm... his value can't be getting higher... Link
