i agree, i like PJ better because of their overall work, but AIC did have it's days. staley is one of the better rock singers, and i listened to them often when i was young....er. but now, it's not really fair to say beause AIC isn't around anymore, PJ is good, and like stated getting better. i love all of their albums and they all have a different feel to them.
Some of PJ's best tracks aren't to be found on their studio records. For example Footsteps Yellow Ledbetter Wash Brother
Neither of them started grunge, they were just on the precipice when it took hold and were ready to jump. I'd say it's a wash, and depends on the mood you're in as to which I'd rather hear/see. I've seen them both in concert more than once and they were both good every time, but I'd have to say PJ was a better show in general by just a bit. Doesn't mean I like the music better. I also have most albums by both and I'd rate them very similarly in stature in general, with both having their highs and lows. I'm not sure why a competitive comparison is needed, really.
AIC was more metal than grunge anyway. That said, are you going to see AIC next Thursday in San Antonio?
my 2 cents The moderate rockers favor the Pearl Jam sound, hesher types more favor the Alice in Chains sound. If you like Alice in Chains, you'll like Soundgarden or Tool. If you like Pearl Jam, you'll like Smashing Pumpkins or Bush. STP and Nirvana kinda go both ways. Thats my little line of reasoning at least... Pearl Jam coulda been even more legendary if they went with full out music industry type promotion. Over the long term they're getting their respect for the rock version keeping it real approach.
I dont even know what that is or means. I like them all as well. I more meant for band ranking purposes, it might be the subtle differences in someone's preferences and tastes that influences someone's rank order. Though Faos' list from earlier totally disproves my theory
How did I miss this 2 years ago? I'm now officially a Gretchen Wilson fan. <object width="560" height="340"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/_cct80pwPd8&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/_cct80pwPd8&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="560" height="340"></embed></object>

Anyone going to see AIC at the upcoming Buzzfest? I remember a short piece done by a Seattle tv station on them from back in the late 80's when they are relative nobodies nationally and thanks to Youtube I found it. <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/1TRjj8ZKvxo&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/1TRjj8ZKvxo&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
