Just stick with what we have. Get Mutombo, complete this roster, and wait for the season!

    NOOOOOO!!!

If we sign him, GP will be the Francis II, aka, getting blamed for everything that goes wrong by YOFs. I do not want to see it happen again.

Exactly, I don't ever remember Francis just flying by Payton off the dribble. When Stevie got to the hole against the Lakers, it was off a pick. Shaq was not the only one that didn't step out. Thier whole team, except for Malone, was horrible at defending the play. You saw every pg blow by them in the playoffs because every team knew they could keep running the pick 'n' roll at them and be succesful at it.

Tt was the triangle offense that messed Peyton up. In the triangle, the PG position is relegated to shooting 3s - Peyton is more of a creator with the ball. (remember all those Bulls teams in the 90's had Ron Harper as their "point" guard.)

I think he would be good here - just because he would have something to prove. That being said - we are fine as we are right now

if we get him, great, if not, bleh it really doesn't bother me. If we get him for Lue, CD, you are the man. Assuming these rumors go through, you would have gotten us: T-Mac, Juan Howard, Reece Gaines, Charlie War (ugh), Bob Sura, Dikembe and Gary Payton. Holy ****.

we've already discussed the fact that the twolves can't possibly get him with Cassell and a resigend Hudson, but why would the clippers do it? THey have a good young player in Jaric and they just drafted the dude from High school sensation (is he?) Shaun Livingston, both PGs.

I don't think GP would be a chemistry prob. His game would actually suit the Rocks well. He can run the brake or post up and run a half court offense. He's slowed down a bit, but he still can be a formidable threat, especially if he rested well.

As far as Karl Malone, if he could stay healthy he'd make a nice spot player and could be a great influence on Taylor. He'd also be our enforcer, something we really haven't managed to acquire yet.

I'm gonna agree with the guy with the site. If we can do it, we probably should. Things like this don't just pop up every day.

This is what I would be worried about also. I laughed when I read that he would like to play in Houston. He WANTED to sign on with the Lakers to win a championship. He knew, when he signed that dotted line, that he would be the FOURTH option on the team and that his job would just to be a real good ROLE PLAYER. Pass the ball to Kobe... check! Pass the ball to Shaq... check! Job done! But, instead of just playing and doing whatever he could to help the team win, he pouted and whined to the media about his role on the team. Makes me wonder how much he really is willing to sacrifice to win it all and if he only cares about his stats.

Nothing would change here. He would be the THIRD or FOURTH option and his defense would look suspect because, again, he has a center who doesn't like to come out to defend the pick 'n' roll. If we do get him, I certainly hope that the deal will be sweetend in the Rocket's favor.

um no to Karl Malone. That would be so ironic. Plus i don't think he and boki would get along LOL. Yao wouldn't like him either, not only because he tried to undercut his best buddy in houston but also the fact of the dirty play of malone, especially that elbow to the back in the playoffs. Seriously who likes Malone?

This is interesting. I would be tempted to do Lue for GP & the TE in the 3 way or however it will work. I'm sure T-Mac & Yao would be consulted on what they thought of bringing in GP and how he would effect chemistry.

I guess GP & Deke are the type of players everyone talked about when they said players would flock to Houston to play with Yao & T-Mac. No FAs but guys under contract with other teams want to be here.

If we pick up Payton for the TE, and sign Karla, we will have 4 PGs and 4PFs! Then we could field two teams.

No Karla. There is no mention of Karla in that article so stop trolling everyone.

BTW, I'm glad Francis didn't pull this with us on the T-Mac deal.

I don't think you understood what I was saying. I didn't say "scary on paper" as in the Rockets roster would be scary. I was listing the many number of things to this story that show it's scary how much it looks like Houston could get Payton (all speculation, but it seems to fit).

rimbaud makes the only argument that you can "against" in my opinion because he feels it could backfire with Payton's history of lashing out and that Lue is valuable to the team. That's the only scenario though: Lue vs. Payton. With all due respect to Jeff, I don't think you can compare this situation to that of Pippen's. Scottie, who was bought in to be a significant piece (if not the piece) to the team, signed a 5-year, $70+ million deal and went off in year one. We sacrificed all that cap space for that.

In this scenario, we're talking one-year deal for one-year deal. There is little risk. Payton, in my opinion, has bigger payoff potential than Lue. If he causes problems and doesn't help the team, he can easily be dumped with that contract -- or just outright waived.

Payton is in the final year of a contract ... so he's either going to play for another contract (behave) or retire (so behaving would be the least of his concerns). He's angry at the Lakers and feels he has a lot to prove. I'd hate to lose Lue's 3-point accuracy, but he's smallish at that position. Right now I feel the Rockets are running with 3 backups at the position. I just think the payoff for a year or two of Payton is better than the potential of several years of Lue ... but I may be wrong.

I think the #1 compatibility issue is JVG. Mr Control Feak v GP, the coach eater? If we don't win much with him perhaps the sideshow entertainment value will keep us watching? Give me wins, not whines.

    No Glove after his time...

Lue for Payton would be a no-brainer. Having two dobermans in the backcourt in Payton and T-Mac would be awesome. Imagine the defense and the fastbreaking.

payton is a head case that the rockets don't need, they just need to get the back up center and let payton be boston's problem

Clutch, I am with you. I do admit that I would be a little worried about his attitude but still, since he has a 1 year deal I think it is worth the risk.
