I have an IBM T22 laptop as my work computer, running XP professional. Our corporate policy is for end users not to have admin access, and as such, my ability to install any 3rd party software is extremely limited. I constantly travel, including to extremely remote locations, and would love to be able to play the odd game on my computer in the evenings. I don't have much time to play games at home, so playing them when I am away on business with nothing better to do would be ideal. Here are my questions - 1. Are there any (good) games that I can run from CD only, and do not require install or registry edit, or even games that I can install on the HD that do not edit the registry. 2. If I get an admin at work to install the game for me, will I then be able to play it? Is it likely to corrupt/crash ,my PC? Age of Empires is a leading candidate, as I think it is less taxing on the PC resources. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I believe you do not need admin authority to install a game, you can set up a seperate user settings and install your games there. I could be mistaken though. DD
It all depends on the restrictions placed on your computer. Some strict companies will not allow you to do anything at all, including seeing portions of the Control Panel, editting the registry, etc... You could take your computer home and try installing the game...usually the worst thing that will happen is that an error message will pop up stating that you need to be logged in as administrator. Another thing you might try, (as irresponsible as this sounds) log into the computer in the local computer's domain as administrator and using "password" as the password. We have had instances where no local administrative account was created (on NT 4 and Win2K computers) and it seemed as though a default account was created. If this user can log in, you will have administrative rights to your computer on its local domain. Not sure to the accuracy of this, but it has occured several times at my company.
